Bike Mapping Startup!
Hi all! My name is Olivia and I am working to promote a student-run mapping startup! Ournavigation app usescrowd sourcing to create the safest & most reliableroutes for bikes, scooters, and other small-wheeled transportation. Think 'Waze for micro-mobility.'
We are looking to grow our network of cyclist and anyone who is interested before our app launch in August. Right now to get off the ground we need a pre-launchlist. I am writing to see if the cycling community can help spread the word on our app and share the pre-launch list with friends, family, clubs, and bike organizations.Please check out our website, mission, and blog posts at bikepointz.com. What will your app offer that Strava heat maps don't offer already?

Our app is more for commuters or people in the city. Strava is a great app that offers tons of data on your performance where as our app will be more focused on safety.

You should know that in many cities in the US, where there’s any kind of network of paths and trails for cyclists or walkers, they are typically off limits to scooters or anything other than a Class 1 E-bike. When you mention “scooters” all sorts of alarm bells go off with me. I do not want to share these paths with motorized vehicles.
As well, you might not be aware that a lot of the cycling activity websites do a form of crowd sourcing currently, so you are somewhat re-inventing the wheel. RideWithGPS, MapMyRide, Strava (the Biggy) as well as the giant in GPS cycling devices - Garmin, all do a form of what you are describing.
I think linking routes with other available resources such as Google Bicycle mapping as well as incorporating things like the NYC Bike Map (and others) into a digital form would have use to people.

Sr Member on Sr bikes
I was thinking along the lines of what was mentioned above about scooters. If I'm a bicycle commuter, on a dedicated trail/path, I really don't want to be sharing that route with scooters, nor even electric-assist bicycles. Frequently people riding those modes think they're bicyclists, but don't act (i.e. safely) like cyclists.
