How many ride a road and Mountain bike.
Just curious how many people in the road bike forum, also ride a mountain bike. It doesn't need to be a 50/50 split but you have to be on it at least once a month.

I voted "road only". My second bike is a 'cross bike, not a mtn bike. In any event, neither bike has seen much dirt in the past 12 months. Maybe a handful of short sections of unpaved road and/or bike path.

Put me in the both category. The dirt makes you appreciate the pavement, and the pavement makes you appreciate the dirt. Variety is GOOD!!

both. i started out on a BMX, riding around the neighborhood and in the woods. then got an X-mart "mountain bike." quickly swapped that for my Trek (15 years ago) which i still ride. got into road bikes via two vintage rides (survivors of the '70s bike boom), and just recently bought my first new road bike.
i've always been a bigger fan of road racing - i couldn't tell you who's who in off-road racing to save my life. but Lemond, Fignon, Kelly and Indurain were heros of mine when i was younger. the only off-roader i followed at all was Overend. when i got old enough to care about the history of the sport, i became entranced with Coppi, Bartali and Merckx...
so i ride mostly on the road these days (well, almost every day), but i love my mountain bike too: it can get me places my road bikes never could. and i still like playing in the mud.

Both. In fact, even though I spend way more time on my road bikes, I'm planning to ride in my first race this summer, and it's a mountain bike race.
Regardless of what type of bike I ride in said race, I expect to have my azz handed to me. Doesn't that sound fun?

Both. See slogan.... Started out mountain biking as a kid, got into the roadie scene a few years after that, and wouldn't have it any other way.

I think the results of this poll might be skewed as the person who owns both a road and mountain bike is probably more likely to respond to (or even open) the thread than one who only owns a road bike.

I ride on average 150-200 hours off road per year although most of those are between October and February.
I'm rarely if ever on a MTB this time of year.

I ride both, though my MTB is currently in the process of being rebuilt/upgraded. Actually I'm taking my time, because I can still do light duty off roading with my road bike (with fatter, non-slick tires). Of course doing a century on a road bike isn't as challenging as doing a century on a 35lb MTB with knobby tires...

I like variety. I have a variety of terrain here. Some of them are on paved roads. Others are trails. Therefore, I use my bikes as applicable. Between the two acitivites, I spend about 60/40 (RB/MTB) in terms of time and about 80/20 (RB/MTB) in terms of distance... however, I'd have to say I'm pretty close to 50/50 in terms of total effort.

Mountain biking makes you a better road biker, road biking makes you a better mountain biker. Do both and kick ass on and off pavement!

I started out with just a mountain bike, but bought a roadie after trying to ride a 60 mile /100 Km course on the road. I still use both, but the mountain bike does double duty as my commuter. Besides, night rides in the forest are a whole new experience.
