Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Orbea Lobular 100 or Cannondale Six13

Looking at getting another frameset , I'm currently looking at an Orbea Lobular 100 or a Cannondale Six13, I'm a currently a huge fan of Orbea's since I already have one but I have also had a Cannondale before (only a R600 though), I'm tempted to lean towards the Cannodale because of all the carbon but I'm a bit afraid of some issues I've heard regarding paint and etc at the aluminum joints on the six13. Then again I do not know much about the Lobular 100's frame, as far as what actually makes the Lobular tubing so great? Can't seem to find any technical info on Orbea's site. Suggestions? I can get each frame for about $700.

Cannondale...even if you do have the paint issue they will fix it right up for you...known issue and purely cosmetic. Six13 is a fantastic top level bike.

Have I mentioned how much I particularly like my own Six13 yet today?

Just sayin'.

It's in the barn for much of the winter anyway. The Ibis Ti (aka INVINCIBLE) is on the road for the slop season.

Does the cannondale require a special crankset and BB? Would I be able to use my FSA crankset or a campy record crankset?

You can use any standard crank and BB...if it came with a SI you can also use one of these which are really nice. If it is SI and hasn't had the insert put into place for a standard crank it will only run you like $20 to have that done (which goes to the above and allows the use of any crank).

I have rode both bikes. I went with the Orbea because the geometry fit me better and it, was to me, a little more confortable. Both are good bikes.
