Good bike option?
Hello,
I am currently looking for a new mountain bike. I have a Cannondale trail 5 (size medium) that is too small. I recently completed an adventure race and the bike was very uncomfortable. I took the bike to my local bike shop who said the bike was too small. I tried a Specialized Fuse (size large) which I did like and it fit well. I would like to get a full suspension bike, but don’t really want to spend the $3k+ it would cost. I found a used bike that was custom built on a 2004 Gary Fisher sugar race frame. I have listed the components below. The seem like quality components. The bike looks great, but the forum won’t allow me to post a pic. My question is: is this a good deal for $700. Would I be better off in a new specialize fuse or similar Hardtail. I would definitely ride before I buy, but just looking for knowledgeable opinions. I mostly ride local trails with my teenage sons and also some adventure racing (no hard core mountain bike racing). I am looking for comfort and versatility. Thank you for your time and input!!

Gary Fisher frames break.... when it breaks are you going to be able to move all those obsolete components to a new bike?

Not wanting to get into a frame that is known to break. Also, I was not aware that those are obsolete components. I enjoy riding, but don’t have much knowledge on the quality of these components. I have looked them up online and realize they are on the inexpensive side. That’s exactly why I posted it on this forum. Thank you for the response. That helps and I will probably just pay for a new bike to enjoy and avoid the frustration!

Another poster in a recent thread mentioned buying Specialized Chisel framesets for himself and his wife --
I was not aware of this model so had to look it up --- i dare say, i was impressed - especially with the bang for the buck --- $1500 starting price if you can find one --- great price for a serious machine !

Thanks for the response! I have seen the Chisel and agree that it is a heck of a bike for the price. Ultimately, I went with the Epic Evo full suspension bike. A little more than I had intended to spend, but I think it will be worth it! Thanks again!

what would you like to know about the race? It was my first adventure race - had a great time. Involved trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. Took approx 6 hours. It had some “challenges” along the way, such as rappelling, cliff jump into the river, orienteering, etc...will definitely be looking to do more adventure races in the future.

Just write it up! People write whole magazine articles and get paid with less material than that
