Trackstanding. Bad for the bike?
I commute daily in pretty heavy traffic and have gotten accustom to trackstanding at lights. I like to be get a head of the flow when the light turns green so Im not fighting for lane space.
I do this on a road bike so Im basically using front wheel and crank tension for balance.
Am I putting unnecessary stress on my bike? Im about 145lbs.

it's only bad for the bike if you fall over.

What's the frame made out of? If it's carbon and you do it once it gets too cold I suppose it could cause stress fractures in the tubes.

145 lbs in Chicago. I would be more worried about the wind blowing me over.

The only problem I can imagine is the wheels if you crank the front sideways to stop you, keep you stopped when applying pedal pressure.

I use the crown of the road. So if I'm on the right hand side of the road (which is the usual place in 'Murica), I turn the wheel left towards the center of the road. Brake isn't needed.

I see a kid do this weekly in our group ride. I swear one time I thought he was gonna eat it. Dunno how he didn't but he pulled it out. I've tried it a couple times, but after several seconds, I lose confidence & hop out. Don't wanna be "that guy".

I don't remember never knowing how to trackstand. I think I did it riding bmx bikes in elementary school. I guess it's like some people actually have trouble riding with no hands or even one handed grabbing a bottle, either it comes natural or it doesn't.

You just kind of let bike fall backwards and use front wheel for balance, hard to describe but similar to doing it on a track bike, you just have to use gravity and your body to move bike backwards as opposed to backpedaling. Your front wheel is usually 45-70~ turned.
I guess Im a lightweight even by roadie standards, worries are gone. Thanks.

My fixed gear chain is so slack it's not much different from freewheel trackstand.

As for the bike, how can track standing be even close to the stress of climbing up a steep hill.
