Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If your 105 is worn out and doing such as doing things like missing shifts, then a new Dura Ace groupo will help. Of course a new 105 groupo will help also. As others have said, DA is a little lighter and works better. But we are talking seconds over many miles here. It's more the engine than the drive-train.

Yeah, but the heat shield that keeps your crabon frame from from asploding offsets that edge.

A full DA/Di2 group will help you say:

"400 Watts, HTFU!" 10% faster and in a deeper more manly tone in the parking lot at Starbucks, but only if you leave it in the 53X11.

Stick with 105. Spend the difference from DA on some Mexican Ephedra and a year's membership at Dollar Shave Club and net more significant speed gains.

People are posting here as if you see more racers (=those that try to go faster) on 105 than DA.

Setting aside racers who get their equipment given to them, you might be surprised what lots of people race. Admittedly, you'll see more people racing with DA than 105, but the number of people using Ultegra, 105, or even Tiagra might surprise you.

Anybody who's raced much at all, knows the extremely marginal differences we're talking about. So many cost sensitive racers race bikes that many in the 41 would be embarassed to take to the coffee shop.

I think more racers than not of the Cat 5-Cat 2 level buy most their stuff. And even if at a discount, they pay more for DA than for 105. Yet much beyond Cat 5 I see more DA than 105. Maybe its where we live. Good poll for the 33 - but they tend to be grumpy.

Actually, brakes are where I can feel a difference. 105 == squish, Ultegra = solid, DA = rock solid.

All three will certainly stop you though.

You would just see "Moved to Road Cycling" as the second post in the thread.

How much of that comes down to the pads though?

I mean the only difference is material and design, the same principles apply to all road brakes. Granted crummy brakes and crummy brakes.

The difference I have experienced between red/force ultegra/105/sora, all comes down to pads and cable adjustment.

I have honestly never used DA brakes, but I cant imagine there is much of a difference.

I used to be a grumpy racer. Then I became a triathlete. I found that triathletes are even more grumpy (except to each other but only at an equal or better level).

Dura Ace actually makes you slower....to reach retirement goals. Now if you have no retirement goals, then all bets are off....

Someone has huge problems if buying Dura Ace affects their retirement.

If Dura-Ace will make your bike give you more of a stiffy, and ride it and clean it more, then get it
