I have Sammy Slick 700x35 tires. Really like them. I ride a cycle cross bike a Cannondale CaadX....the issue I have with the tire is that the tread is well almost gone on the back tire and thin but still there on the front. Its only the center tread that is gone, the sidewall tread is really good. I have had the bike since January but the tires seem to be wearing quickly. I ride 99% paved trails...love the bike, like the tires but wearing faster than I think they should. Only using 75psi or so and check the pressure once a week. they are rated for 85psi.

Is this normal? any suggestions for next tires? I think I am going to switch them out this winter if they last that long

I ride on my city's bike trail system that is 20% concrete and about 80% asphalt. they don't chip seal the cracks and holes either they fill them and leave the bump or what not. I ride 5 blocks to get to the trails one way.

Total miles on the bike tires is about 400 miles according to my Gamin bike computer...so that is darn close. I am a fat guy so I know that is a factor but still. I will try to post some pics tonight if needed too.

I think its the surface you are riding on, and maybe your weight is a small factor
yea if you reduce the pressure a little they will wear more even, not just in the middle
make sure their is no play in the hub to axle area

Sammy Slicks are nice but do wear fast. My rear is showing significant wear after only 750 miles or so. I'd look into the Clement X'plor USH or MSO if you want a tire that will still work on gravel. Or something like the Pasela if you are OK with a more road oriented tire.

Thanks for the info, I have little doubt that my weight plays a larger role in eating up the tire. I only need a road tire so the suggestions are much appreciated.
