Bicycle Commuter Video Thread - I wanna see your commute!
With the popularity of tiny video cameras and smart phones with video capability it should be a snap for most folks to somehow shoot video of their morning and/or evening commute (assuming there is enough light). I wanna see your commute, no matter how boring you might think it is. I see it as a cheap way to take a ride in a distant community without even need of a map or knowledge of routes.
Handlebar mounts are readily available for smart phones and almost any modern digital "snapshot" camera has video capability. And of course there are several makes of "helmet" cams on the market that shoot stunning HD video (not that I could upload HD through my cheapo WiFi).
BTW...YouTube offers a free option for uploading very long videos, even over an hour in length. You just sign up - assuming you have not already annoyed YouTube by breaking their rules in the past. They will send an activation code to your smartphone and you can even upload directly from your phone if this is how you capture your video.
Alright...roll camera and - ACTION!

I dont have a camera or I would.
My commute would be boring for this thread, in that my morning route is amongst people who respect me and give me lots of room, and my evening commute is through the spectacularly beautiful Cherokee Park and laid back side streets. Nothing that would get people amped up
Yesterday I came across a KraZy bIKe LaDy riding an absolutely gorgeous Pashley with a HUGE-totally awesome 'Daniel Boon, 'coon skin cap for a helmet.
Now that, is something I wish I had a picture of

I love Santa Monica! I used to spend three months a year couch-surfing on Navy Street in Venice about a mile from the beach. Wasted my life playing inline hockey in those giant parking lots at the beach not far from the pier. Also into the speed skating scene back when that was popular in the '90s.
Thanks for the vid!

wish I had a video of some of the many varieties that are my commute. Sometime along the scenic bike bath, past Goleta beach and through UCSB, then around the airport to work. Other days through the residential neighborhoods, and main variety 3 is along the foothill road. If/when I get a camera with video capability, I'll be sure to post it for ya!

Weshigh, enjoyed watching your commute. I just moved to Portland in July from LA. i lived just below SM Blvd. a little East of Fairfax and I recognized so much of your ride. I traversed Fountain many times going East to Silver Lake and of course, many times going West on SM Blvd. all the way to the beach, or turning on Wilshire then San Vicente. It is cool to see so many of the areas I have been riding the past several years in your commute.

I finally picked up a GoPro this week and am having lots of fun with it. Here is my commute; I hope you'll enjoy watching it as much as I do :

Joey, good to see you back. I haven't been in here for a while; spending too much time in the Road forum. I am recovering from a single-bike self-inflicted accident, but will record my first commute back.

I'd love to bike around NYC just once. I would go completely insane doing it every day though!

You gonna eat that?
I'm not really commuting by bike anymore; in fact, I don't think I've ridden to work 5 times since making this video. It was done in two parts; you will notice about halfway through all of a sudden the grass turns green. All video taken with my crappy dumb phone camera.

In this video a ped walks into traffic, hidden by a postal truck, 6:10.

Great video. Enjoyed it.
Watching these makes me want to commute again. Maybe I need to make a point of doing it once or twice a month at least.

Your neighborhood is much nicer than the one I remember visiting.
Many years ago as part of my Snap-on Tools dealer training, the
company sent me to their Dallas/Ft. Worth facility. It was all hiways
and a bit of Main st. area where they had shops and restaurants.

Great vids so far! Doohickie - I loved the shots in yours where you showed your shadow. Not bad for a dumb phone!
I'm the exact opposite of you, Doohickie - I'm not working at the moment (well, I am working, but "house husband" is my new job title), but I "commute" almost every day to run errands and such - anywhere from 10 to 30 miles depending on what I need to do.
Maybe I'll rig my iPhone to capture a typical daily run.

Nice. I lived on Sawtelle just south of Venice back in the 1980s. Your video looks so familiar. Back then I bike commuted from there to just south of LAX, a little less than 10 miles one way.

Mine's going to have to wait until DST kicks in, probably. It's too dark in the mornings, and it's usually getting pretty dark when I leave in the afternoons, still. I have multiple routes I take, depending on how ambitious I'm feeling, and the weather....

Nice job. I have been known to taunt the crackheads in the Starbuck's line as well. Never pass up a good chance to draft an 18 wheel peloton either. Nice mix of roads, traffic not too horrendous. Thanks for the post!
