Did they also have the team bike replica? That would be the ultimate fantasy obsession!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone going that far here in the UK. I see the odd classic Team Sky jersey, but most people ride non-team branded cycling gear. Very few roadies ride in non-cycling gear eg T-shirts, casual shorts etc. The most common jerseys I see are Rapha with the classic armband. I have a couple of those myself.

Don’t know about looking stupid but over the last couple of years I have noticed I tend to receive more deferential treatment from drivers regardless of what I am wearing. Must be some upside to aging.

Not sure about stupid, but this old guy's looks would certainly not be enhanced by a tight team jersey.
I normally wear comfort/relaxed fit jerseys that do not cling too tight...comfort, rather than performance, is the most important factor.
Recently the community bike workshop I volunteer at had its own jerseys designed and made up for the workers...we ride individually and occasionally together and they thought it would be good publicity.
I ordered a medium relaxed fit (5'8" and 150lb), emphasising that I did not want race fit. When it came it must have been designed by a malnourished racing snake. I felt and looked ridiculous but on the plus side some lucky 12 year old will soon get a bargain from the local charity shop.
I normally wear comfort/relaxed fit jerseys that do not cling too tight...comfort, rather than performance, is the most important factor.

I've got my skinny jerseys and my fat jerseys. Lately, my fat jerseys are turning into my skinny jerseys. Oy.

IMO, dismounted bicyclists who leave their helmet on and continue to wear it in public places such as business or dining establishments, or while posing for selfies or group pictures - look super stupid, regardless of the color of the helmet or whatever else they are wearing.

An easy and smarter looking solution to helmet-hair is an easy to carry comb, or putting on a cap (baseball or cycling etc.) which is also a better look for those concerned about other hair issues (such as lack of) that might be visible when doffing their helmet.

What looks dumb to me is a person with a large belly that extends out over their shorts. This is nothing new and was not uncommon even in the 1960's. The fat guy would usually be on an ultra expensive Italian road bike with racing geometry. But then we have the not uncommon guys who enter middle age and decide that they must own a Porsche or a red Corvette or Mustang convertible.
We have the "men" wearing baggy shorts and baseball caps turned backwards and they think they look cool and hip and are clueless as to how juvenile and ridiculous they appear.
