I’m in the “...use whatever saddle your butt likes...” camp. Who cares what others think...besides, nobody is gonna see your saddle when you are riding.

I've seen Brooks saddles on new carbon fiber bikes.

It's your butt. Go for it.

Brooks Pro Saddles

Hear hear!

Original 1967 Brooks Pro on my 1967 PX-10. This is the bike I've ridden the most over the last several months.

The saddle is supper comfortable but may be on it's last legs so I keep an eye on it. Ever here the expression "having eyes in you a**!"

My first Brooks Pro. Its' a 1971 that I got in 1975 from a local racer when he hung up his cleats. It had ~20k miles on it and I put on another 10k, so ~30k miles total.

WTB Pure V on my 1977 IM. It's getting switched out to a WTB Silverado (or maybe a Brooks Pro)...

In this week of Canada Day and Fourth of July, I reflect on just how lucky I am to live in (and next to) a country where "blasphemy" is mostly a joke word. Where uttering it doesn't prompt a fevered mob to call down punishment from the law. It wasn't always so, and still isn't, in a lot of places. Let the ring of freedom never stop.

There's no room for xenophobia in saddle choices when personal comfort is your goal.

Well I’ll break with the pack and say that yes, it is blasphemous.* Have you tried a Turbo yet, perhaps in a flashy color?

*But ultimately you should put whatever saddle you like on your bike, and comfort is the #1 priority when it comes to saddles.

The B17 on my McLean is so badly worn that I will now be carrying a spare saddle when I ride. Maybe I'm obsessively frugal, but I'm enjoying it on its last few rides, and I want to be ready when it fails. I have been stocking up on B17 here and on ebay. I buy them used, and they are a risk. They don't all work out, but I now have a collection of four spares, so I'm good for a while.

I suppose it is blasphemous, but in a good way. So yeah, go for it.

That bike was made during the darkest days of Brooks. Virtually nobody rode leather saddles during that era. I can't imagine what their production numbers would have been like. Road bikes weren't very popular period, and they usually had to be marketed as 'tri' bikes - as with the Ironman for example. This was the time of saddle covers. Remember those? I would have been some tasteless neon color or print or both. Ditto the handlebar tape. Neon green to orange fade with a tiger pattern, or something like that. I guess it was supposed to match your bleached wedge haircut...

Farm and Fleet sells some comfy tractor seats- 'butt' it ain't going on a flashy racer of the 80s.

Calling out to RHM and thanking him for a Flite titanium recovered in a hide attached with rivets to the original substrate. Oh, should mention its been soaked by a few rain storms and perfectly held its shape.

I've had several B17s and it's vastly more comfortable than any aero-plastic art object you might want to replace the stock Centurion saddle with. That said, the B17 would not be my first choice where speed is critical and you're already wearing chamois. If you can afford it, knock an extra half pound off with one of Brook's TI or Cambian racing saddles. I'm pretty sure Lon Haldeman rode Brooks to set his 5 RAAM records, so it's not in the least bit blasphemous. Brooks was synonymous with racing until plastic gel saddles showed up...

I was just given grief on another forum for the blasphemy of mounting a B17 on a Zipp seat post. Hey, it’s a nice made 2 bolt adjustment. Just like my old Campy!

So the Brooks is blasphemy, but the Zipp is not?
