Good Trek Mechanic needed - Gregg's in Bellevue can't make it happen
So I have a Trek Marlin 7 that I bought at Gregg's in Bellevue in December.
I took in for a tune up after maybe 200 miles because the front wouldn't shift out of the small gear. When I got it back it shifted up once and then the rear wouldn't shift correctly. So while I was traveling my dear wife took it back to Gregg's. Round trip to the shop is 80 miles. So now I have it back and the rear does shift better and I can shift the front to the second gear.
Great yet the bike has NEVER shifted to the highest front gear. I can only assume the fine people at Gregg's NEVER EVER checked that the bike worked properly in the three times they have had it.
I am done with Gregg's in Bellevue! So much so that I am willing to pay a real shop real money to fix my bike that is still under warranty!
So now that you have made it through my rant can you recommend a good shop in on the eastside?
Thanks for your time. Rick

Maybe Gregg's doesn't pay enough to retrain good help? They get $15 an hour now too?

I believe I have heard good things about Redmond cycle plus it is closer to you and a Trek dealer.

Edge & Spoke is great, too. Also in Redmond, it's a small shop and the owner is almost always in.

If you are going to pay for the servicing, then why limit yourself to a Trek dealer? It's not like a Specialized Dealer won't know how to adjust your derailer?

There's some good guys there but some of their stud mechanics left. I live up the hill from them and have mainly had stellar work done -- I've had a couple subpar experiences too.
I broke down in Arlington once and I was pleasantly surprised with the work that shop did. I had to replace my bottom bracket and they turned that baby 'into butter'.

Actually, after giving Woodinville Cycle many chances, my derailleur -- which they replaced about 2 months ago -- just exploded tonight on a ride in Snohomish County simply when I was just pedaling and not even changing gears. The spring popped and ended up in the chain and it was totally unrideable. All the good bike mechanics I know there have left -- and I've given them more than 3 shots to get their act together. The derailleur could have been a lot of things but the common denominator in previously failed work has been those guys. I'm sure there are some happy customers but they've been my goto shop for some time now and I've seen a drop in quality. They no longer get my business.
