Anyone using Lake road shoes?
Opinions? I had been focused on Sidi shoes but a local LBS owner and rider suggested Lake. He doesn't sell either so I will be shopping on-line.

Kit doesn't match
Lake is a solid brand with a wide range of options, from entry-level to top-drawer. I have a mid-range pair that have a real leather upper that were a good value. Lakes fit me better than Sidis do, so that's what will determine if they are right for you. Good luck.

I love the Lake ratchet system over velcro. Highly recommend Lake shoes.

I've had SIDI road (1 pair) & mountain (3 pairs) and liked them but was surprised how soon the came apart given the cost. I wanted a wider shoes (mega don't have a wider footbed) and the Lake wide were the only reasonable choice. I bought the CX176 road shoes and liked them so much I ordered the MX176 mountain shoes. For what it is worth, I bought the mountain shoes directly from Lake's website. Every LBS I talked to said they "could order them" but when asked if they don't fit what do I do. The response was always "Special order - no returns" and I can't blame them so I had no other choice than to mail order both pairs. Decent arch in the insert though I purchased a better insert for my road shoes. Good ventilation, have had both less than a year so can not speak about durability but they still look new.

I have the CX237. More volume than many other brands. Double-Boa is great, leather is top quality. Stiffer than most, if that’s a concern.
On year 3 with my Lakes. Best shoes I’ve used. I would (will) buy them again.

First pair of mountain biking shoes I ever owned were Lake. Loved them! I'd not hesitate to get road shoes (if I could find them locally for less than my also beloved Bontrager shoes)

I switched from Sidi Genius to Lake CX332. I won't go back. The lake has a bit more room in the toe box and I like the BOA better than the velcro and ratchet system. The fit is otherwise similar and the Lake is lighter and stiffer as well. I also upgraded to their Raven Carbon fiber insole. It offers better arch support than what comes with the shoe.

Same comments as most---Lakes fit my feet and are light and stiff and more comfortable than some other brands. Cannot say whether they will work for you.

I bought a pair of Lake CX something road shoes on closeout sale a few years ago, to use to replace my Northwest shoes that I use on my road bike. The Northwest shoes are still chugging along, so for 3 seasons now I've only been using the Lake shoes indoors on my Wahoo Kickr trainer with Zwift - not a realistic comparison, but lots of "miles" on them now.
I like the BOA dial system, but one of the BOA adjusters failed. An easy and free path to getting replacement from the BOA website, a 2 minute/one screwdriver fix. I like the wider fit and the stiffness of the soles. I think they will work great on my outdoor biking but only then will I see how they stand up to rain and more walking around with the on, etc.

Yes, I have several pairs. My first pair commuted year 'round for at least a decade. My feet love the fit. I have a pair I had a cobbler build up the soles around traditional cleats so I can walk and not kill either myself or good floors. Good enough shoes to justify that kind of spending.
I have two pairs I have removed the straps from and added grommets and laces. Ahhh!! Comfort.
They are good shoes. I figured they were cheap Asian imports but since the fit seemed good, OK. That was nearly 20 years ago. Haven't hit a disappointing pair yet. They get 80% of my riding. I've never found "better" shoes that fit as well so if I am riding more than one day and I take the "better" ones, I also bring the Lakes for insurance.
Edit:
I'd patronize that shop! An owner who will suggest a good product he doesn't carry has class.

I've had two pairs of Lakes.
The first were the 236s. They fit great, but the BOA set up was crap. It had only one dial located behind the heel. My heel would slip when pulling on the shoes - the BOA would just tighten around the toes.
I'm now using CX-1 Carbons on the track. They are lace up, and fit well enough.
I've found that the customer service at Lake is very responsive. If you take decent measurements of your feet - length and width - and let them know what shoe model you are looking at, they'll let you know what size to get. I had 44s in the 236s, but customer service suggested I go with 43.5 on the CS-1s. (Both were wides.)
Also, be sure to look at what last you are getting. Lake has two or three lasts, each with different widths per size.

I have the Lake MXZ 303 winter mountain bike boots that I use with Speedplay Frog cleats/pedals on my road bikes during the winter months. In my experience with cold weather riding, these boots are much better than using shoe covers on regular bike shoes when the temps get down below 40° F.

I'm looking for a shoe that is Speedplay Zero compatible and I usually take a 10.5 US or 45 Euro. Lake's website says 10.5 equates to 43.5 Euro. Really?
