Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Changing Campag Veloce to Shimano 105 on Bianchi Nirone 7 c2c

I am thinking of changing campag veloce to shimano 105 on Bianci Nirone 7 c2c.
It is my wife's bike and she wants a 32 on the back. Are there any problems to this. Would the BB need shims and is it Italian thread etc?
Any advice would be helpful.
Cheers
Steve

I'm not giving you wrenching advice but I'm curious why the change from Campy. I have Athena on one bike and ultegra 6800 on the other. They are both smooth but after riding Campy for so long, I can't stand not having the thumb shifters. Again, both are great, it's just a preference thing. I'm sure if I rode shimano for years Campy would feel foreign.

Agreed. I love my Veloce gear. All my other bikes have 105, which is fine, but my Campag gear is smoother and very rarely needs tweaking.

My Via Nirone has an Italian threaded bottom bracket. If you are set on changing over to Shimano you can get it with Italian threaded cup BB.
It would be a lot easier to change the cassette and the rear derailleur vs changing the whole system.

Yes. Get a Miche cassette with the larger gears, and make sure your derailleur has enough wrap. I use a Campy Comp Triple for my touring bikes, and it works well for the large rear cogs.

Thanks for all your replies. The reason for changing is that my wife would like a 32 on the back and the most I could see for campag was 29 or 30. Also the bike is around 5 years old and is on its 3rd set of shifters and its 4th bottom bracket. My bike that has done about 3K miles more is still on its original shimano. I will look up the Miche cassette to see if thats an easier option.
Cheers

If this 10sp you can get a Shimano freewheel, 11-32 cassette, and a Sram "direct actuation" mtb derailleur.
You could also go to 11-34 or 11-36 with this set up.

This sounds like a good solution. It is a 10 speed. my only concern is would a campy shifter index the shimano cassette. Have you tried this and does it shift nicely.
Cheers

Yes it works well. I have it on our tandem using a Sram X7 mountain bike derailleur.

Centaur line has a 12-30t cassette.

IRD makes what you want:
