wide sandals help needed
Hello everyone,
Im trying to decide which cycling sandal to get but i have one major issue. I wear a 4e shoe. Does anyone know which sandal is the widest? Shimano,Lake or keen? If you know of any other brand let me know. I went to my LBS today and they had an old style Shimano and it was too narrow.
Many Thanks,
Danny

The Keen will be far too narrow for you. I am between a D and E and it was very tight on me so I returned them (see REI reviews for two who note the narrowness; can also find this discussion elsewhere, such as on this forum I think). See also this site for width and durability of Keen:

I have the new Shimano sandal and it fits me well, so given your size it will likely be too narrow for you also. Nike makes cycling shoes, but don't think they are any wider. I think you are unlikely to find a cycling specific sandal that will work. If you go with platform pedals, then any regular sandal can work for you, but at the loss of an attached pedal-shoe combination.

FWIW I had Lake sandals (wore out after 10000+ miles) and just got Shimano sandals, and the Lake sandals were definitely wider.

If you must have sandals this won't help, but...
Sidi makes most of their shoes in a Mega model that is nice for folks with wide feet. I like the Sidi Mega Bullet 2 MTB shoe it is nice and still a lot cheaper than their higher end shoes. They have a similarly priced road shoe, the Zeta, I think. It too comes in a Mega model.

FWIW: I loved my Lake's. I recently started wearing some Sette sandals after my pop-up camper deposited one of my Lake sandals onto the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys. The Lake was definitely wider than the Sette. Anybody need ONE lake sandal, size 45/46? I think it's left.
