Frame Braze On Crank Set Question.

I have an 80's steel frame with a Braze On front derailure hanger. Will a compact crank set work or will I have to stay with a standard crankset?

You may just have bigger 52 rather than 50t chainring, still keep the 34, or keep the 16 t gap with a 36t..

a 110 bolt circle crank can do the job..

All my frames (mid 80s to late 90s steel) have brazed-on fd hangers. I run a 50t large chainring on all of them. The derailleurs are all as low as they can go in the hanger and I have about 1-2mm gap between the derailleurs' outer cages and the large chainrings. All shift fine.

Put a clamp on adaptor below it

Or spend more and drop it down.

If you want an answer, take a picture of where the fd currently sits in the braze on

Derailure Setting

Current setting to high?

The current derailure setting might be to high.

As above, you can probably run a (round) 50-tooth chainring by lowering your front derailleur.

You might have an issue with the chain rubbing the roller at back of the front derailleur's cage, but you'll find that out after you put everything together. It's usually only a problem when running the small chainring-small cog combination, something you should avoid anyway.
