@TimothyH
How is this working out? Are the calipers an improvement?
How do they differ from mtn quad-piston calipers (like the new XT, or TRP)?

Best upgrade I've never done!
Here is a photo of how they look. They look so good that I might leave them right there for another few weeks or months or maybe a year or two.
Note the dust on the box...

Pretty frustrated right now.
Does anyone know what bleed kit to use with the RX4 calipers for Shimano?
The bleed port on the caliper is threaded and the instructions show a syringe with threaded fitting on the end of the hose.
Hope's website has zero information on what this threaded part is or how to get it. Their website shows no information on what bleed kit to use.

The installation PDF is kind of useless. I watched the you tube video and noticed it's a Sram style syringe they are using with the appropriate shimano mineral oil.
This is the kit I used for my Sram system when I installed my rx4 calipers and it indeed has the appropriate bleeding adapter with an M5 threaded end. Sram uses 2 syringes the bleed their brakes, this kit has 3 adapters, 2 of which are the ones you need. There are knock off kits around the internet that are cheaper. Maybe even your local bike shop has one to buy or rent for a few hours.

M5 is what I read on another website.
I've ordered that kit. Hopefully (no pun) I can ride this bike soon.

As one who does computer work and spends half his day reading technical documentation, you would think I would know enough to slow down and actually spend more than three seconds reading that section. But no, there it is, in black and white.
I'll even post a screen cap as a testament to my stupidity.
And thank you.

One of the pistons is stuck in the bore and won't budge.
Really disappointed in these POS.

Tried to push the piston back but it won't budge. It is useless.
The front was installed, bled and ready to go. The rear had the hose run, caliper attached and was going through the bleeding process. It was all a complete waste of time.
Good thing I left the hoses a little long so that the Hope barbs could be cut off. The Shimano calipers went back on.
I'll see what Hope says about warranty. I know people like these things but I have a 50% failure rate and people on other forums say that got two in a row like that. I'll probably just sell them.

My experience was the exact opposite as the Sram brakes seemed weak and the new calipers made a big improvement.
However from my own experience, the Ultegra brakes with resin pads on my road bike stop better than my Sram Force with the RX4 calipers. The Shimano stuff works so well I would be hard pressed to change it.

Feeing like an Amazon review up in here— one single item doesn’t work, so the entire company must be a farce. I’ve had FOUR Maxxis tires go back for warranty replacement. Doesn’t mean Maxxis is inherently flawed. I literally just mounted another Maxxis tire about 4 hours ago.
And of course, counterpoint from my perspective— my RX4 calipers have been flawless since day one. But I also bought mine at my LBS, so if one had arrived DOA, it would have been replaced within a few days.

50% failure rate is enough for me but I'm not the only one having this problem.

A good moderator never has gear problems and includes how many miles on that perticular gear, as well as total monthly and yearly mileage on gear, bike, shoes, kind of shoes and how they smell.

with dura ace 9170 calipers super cheap on eBay why do people paying so much more for 3rd party calipers that may or may not work. Just got a pair in mint condition for $90. Saved 40g over 8070 calipers

I imagine part of the reason is that SRAM uses DOT fluid, which rules out any and all Shimano calipers.
If weight is your overriding concern when it comes to braking,
flat mount Shimano 9170 caliper, 123g
flat mount Hope RX4-SH caliper, 109g
flat mount Hope RX4-SR caliper, 93g
...and the post-mount versions are even lighter.
I personally don't care what it weighs. Any weight savings are a nice bonus.

Don't see the problem. Just call Hope USA and they will send you a new caliper. I would be *****ing and screaming if they told me to pound sand but that doesn't seem to be the case.
But then I realized this is a Tim thread so par for the course.
