What brand of 8 speed 11-34 cassette do you recommend? I need to buy one in the next few days. I have SRAM rear derailleur and grip shifter.

If you want SRAM, as far as I can tell, you have to go with 11 - 32.

You can use any of the above cassettes. You don't need a SRAM cassette to work with your SRAM setup.

If you are replacing a cassette with a smaller (than34 teeth) big cog you will need to make certain that your chain is long enough to shift into the big chain ring/big cog combination without straining, and that your rear derailleur can handle that large of a cog; its B-screw may need to be adjusted.

you may also need a new chain to go with the new cassette because it is likely that your old chain has stretched.

I like KMC X8.93 chains.

I think Sunrace actually has better cog spacing for the 34T 8-speed cassettes:

Sunrace is a 28-34 jump between 1st and 2nd cog, whereas Shimano forces you into a 26-34 jump. Their 11-32 cassette uses a 28-32 jump, but the 11-34 is a 26-34 jump. Why they wouldn't just put a 34T cog in place of the 32T, and leave the other spacing alone, I don't know.

The Sunrace shifts fine. The small cog space from the second cog seems wide so that now my chain rubs the bashguard when in smallest gear. Not sure if there is a fit problem or what. I have not removed it again to see if the small cog fit can be made better.

The only bash guard I'm familiar with is on the crank set. Can you post a photo?

I checked a sunrace 8 speed cassette and the spacing seems the same as the other cogs. If you take off the cassette you can do a quick and dirty check by comparing it to the other cogs. I used the 34 to 28 space and set the small cog of the 34t surface. You can also use calipers to check. It may be from a 7 speed cassette 11t. Also check that there is no spacer on the freehub.

It is odd that the chain would rub against the bashguard if it is close to the same diameter as the chainring as the big-small chain angle should not be severe. If you can remove the bashguard, you can space it out a little further and still protect the chainring and not drop a chain.

I missed the thread earlier, but I don't see the utility in a 11-34. If you need that low a gear I would have recommended a 13-34 instead, unless perhaps one has smaller than a 48 tooth large chainwheel.
