BMC Frame question

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

BMC Frame question

I'm considering a new bike and one of the ones that has significantly piqued my interest is the new BMC SLR01. The reviews are great on the bike but I was recently speaking to one of my LBS - one, of course, that doesn't carry the brand - and they really trashed BMC saying it has had a number of frame failures. I have not heard this anywhere nor have I been able to find anything on the web about this. These guys, I've found, are normally quite honest and I tend to trust them but I've definitely found that all the LBS in my area seem to disparage a brand when they don't carry it. Has anyone heard of any such issues?

The other bikes in the consideration set include the Time RXR, the Pinarello Dogma and the Wilier Cento 1. Any thoughts on those welcomed, as well.

Thanks.

Ed

I've noticed the same thing with some bike shops I've dealt with as well and while I can appreciate their interest in wanting to sell me a bike brand they carry, there's no need to trash those they don't. I went to a shop once that told me Cervelo's bikes have a lot of bottom bracket failures and I should stay away from them, something I had not heard of from any good source. I haven't read of any issues with BMCs frames, of course there will always be defective bikes etc but not anything different than you'd find with any other bike manufacturer.

Those BMC's are all lawsuits waiting to happen! All Treks are shoddy (I mean, who picks out those colors??), Cannondale was fine until they moved their production overseas, and don't even get me started on those Italian bikes! The only bike worth buying is Fuji. Yup, Fuji. Hand made by 120 year old crafstmen at their Japanese Domo... -- what? They aren't? They're made in Taiwan just like everyone else? Dang!

Never mind.

Yep, a BMC frame was definitely Floyd Landis's downfall.

Mine exploded right underneath me when I hit that small pothole yesterday. Lost my left knee cap and half my right testicle. But still.... epic ride man.

I have to re-weld my frame after every ride. I carry a soldering iron on centuries just in case.

My only complaint with BMC is all of their bike have top tubes like 9 miles longer than I want them to be.

Loktite works just fine for the carbon frames that randomly detonate, but I find the duct tape which keeps my BMC together is doing pretty well though it does make the bb feel a bit spongy.

Mine gained weight. Last time I weighted it, it was up to 30lbs and my doritos were missing. WTF? Lockin' that fatty in the basement.
