A few years ago, I found vice grips on the road. These are small enough to fit with my tools, so I carry them when I'm touring.
I've also found plenty of bungee cords on the side of the road. Most are not usable, but a few have been good. Some are torn, but the ends are good, so I'll use the ends to make my own cords from old bike tire tubes.

I once picked up a cell phone. At the end of the day's ride I was going to call some of the contacts to try to locate the owner, but before I got the chance the phone rang and it was the woman who owned it. We met a few hours later and I returned it to her. She was attractive and very grateful and I got a hug out of the deal. I had been through a nasty divorce a few years earlier and had been rather gun shy where women were concerned at that point in my life, but the hug was nice and reminded me that it might be time to start looking again. Shortly thereafter I met the most awesome woman on the planet.
Another time I picked up a picker-upper.

My wife and I and another couple were on a hub-n-spoke trip in Florida not too many years back. Riding along a coastal road in an area with no houses, but not far from some multimegabuck mansions, we found a crisp $50 bill just sitting along the side of the road. Were delighted to find 3 more just like it in the next hundred yards.

Found a cell phone at a suburban intersection & called the owner who picked it up. Can't remember how it fell out of the guy's car. Kinda funny about picking up the picker-upper!

I almost picked up a woman at a bar once, but Prudence got the best of me.

A dog started following me on my last 3 day tour here in Southern Germany. I stopped for a snack, it came over, then kept along side me for almost an hour. Finally, it just started to slow down and fall back.

Haha...WOW...I am impressed! So many great finds!!! I never find any money...
I don't have trip mascots, but I DO have flowers!!! I attached a little florist's vial to my stem with zip ties as a sort of "blumenvasen"--a flower vase you sometimes see in VW Beetles--and as I ride, I collect wildflowers to make a sort of mini-bouquet. I limit myself to the wild, roadside ones though--no picking from peoples' gardens! (The picture with the rose was from my own backyard.) And, I'm always careful to check for bugs first.

I did find a $20 bill a hundred feet into the forest on the downhill southbound into Markleeville on a tour. It was rather weird, because I had stupidly crashed there in 1986, injuring my thumb and back and ending a tour. So I stopped right where I had dumped myself for a few minutes, walked over to a rock outcrop of a colorful altered volcanic rock, and found the $20. Sorry, Mother Nature, that wasn't close to being enough of an apology.
