Touring Europe Avg. daily € spendings

Hi,

as my plans develope and grow I am sometimes getting scared of money that we'll (two of us) need on a daily basis.

I am thinking of 25€ per day for food. Will that be enough for two of us? We'll use stove and wild camp.

SInce I live in Croatia, Europe I test my self on my long daily rides and see my self (only me) spending 20€ very very easy. And France + Italy, they are more expensive I guess than my country is.

Have any experince with that, what are your daily spendings.

Also, every 4-5 days we'll have to use some campgrunds so extra money will go on that. In 50 days trip it'll be 10 stops x cca25€ = 250 € on camps only

Depending on where you tour you will find it hard to wild camp everywhere. If you do your research for campsite prices and eat cheap food (i.e. pasta) you could camp and eat each day for 25€.

It will be hard but doable.

France has municipal sites that are cheap. Avoid big commercial sites, expensive. If in UK try and use camping and caravanning club sites, they class you as backpackers and charge on average 14
€ per day for 2 people. Other commercial sites can be cheaper.

For those that say no I did Spain over a christmas period for 30 days, 2 hotels, 3 nights wild camping and food for 550
€ (hotels were 90€ in total). I do acknowledge if in high season it will be dearer.

Touring Europe Avg. daily

25 euro/day for food for two people is definitely doable.
Buy food from the huge supermarkets on the outside of towns. Drink water

I've read that book but it wasn't very inspiring to me since the bigger part of that book he was depressed. But even if I go alone it wouldn't be a problem but since i am going with my girlfriend I don't want this tour looks like road to hell but more like "no luxury bike holiday". If she's not hungry she is ok )

It depends which countries. In most of Europe €25 per day for food for two people is perfectly do-able. In Spain it would be easy. In Switzerland, less easy.

If you are used to getting along on small expenditures, then you can probably continue..

though there is the VAT on stuff and what ever the currency exchange rate is between home and the Euro.

Have a talent that is entertaining ?, Busking is always a possibility..

In 2008, two of us averaged 50 euros a day for total spending. This included campgrounds every night and eating out every second night. So 25 euros a day for food is easily doable.

True, the more rural areas, certainly do-able, but not near the bigger cities. Same for Switzerland, they'll charge for everything, and at top price!

Thank you for responding, I have a bit more confidence now. I think we'll give it a try.

P.S. and what are some average campground prices in ie France and Spain? I am trying to get this info on the Web but results vary very much. And I really don't need any luxury, just a camping place and a shower place.

The results do vary. It depends on the time of year, the location, and the services available.

What's available also depends. When Rowan and I travelled through Europe last August, there were a few occasions where we had to take whatever was available. And one of the things we found was that if you weren't driving with a caravan, if you only had a tent, you were given the leftovers ... the little patch of grass miles from the toilet block. But the fees were still fairly high. In late August and into September, the situation got better.
