Cannibalized two HG freehubs to convert two UG hubs to HG.
The Shimano FH 6400 was plug and play, but this ol' 6200 era one made me mix and match parts from the HG and UG freehub. All so I could keep a groupset together *sigh*

I believe this was the 6261 hub? Uniglide, but with the oil port and spring clip and old Shimano branding.
This hub didn't have the mounting bolt for the freehub body. The bearings hold the freehubs body on the hub shell. Seems like it works okay?
The only other thing making this trickier than other HG conversions is the splined interface on the 6200 hub shell is different. No matter, once I took apart the freehub body everything else seemed identical to my donor freehub body internally (pawls lined up well).
So I just put the longer HG outer part over the original freehub body inner part (with the pawls) and it mated perfectly.
Haven't fully tested it out, but it spins one way and not the other, which is hopefully all that matters! And it fits hg cassettes just fine.

OOOps. Having let a LBS take the fixed bb cup out for me I had assumed it was English threaded...lol. French bicycles...whew. Turns out the BB is Swiss threaded. They look reusable but I'd like to put a new bb assembly in. Anyone know a source for new Swiss bb (cups or complete bb).
The frame is 77-78 GT or GJ, I'd like to do a period correct rebuild but would consider a cartridge bb.
Thanks, DA

The trough where the cable sits was too deep on my new Victory rear derailleur. The cable kept slipping. I looked at my old one, and, sure enough, I used JB Weld to build it up. So I did it again.
I'm still using the same two little epoxy tubes from about ten years ago. Such a great product.

If you are OK with more modern solution, IRD makes catrtridge bottom brackets with replacable cups. You can buy IRD bottom bracket in various spindle lengths and replacement cups in Swiss threading (you swap the cups yourself). Downside of this solution is that their spindles are JIS only. So unless you're using mid 80's Japanese made crankset, you might again have some chainline problems. These are nice BBs though, I've been using the cheapest version for about 3 years now with no issues. And this is probably the easiest option for JIS taper.
There are also some "no name" (or several names, like Token or Neco) cartridge bearing bottom brackets and I think they come in ISO taper. There's a German seller who sells them (look for Schweizerisch gewinde). No idea how good or bad these are.

Got started on the rehab of the 1982 Trek 412 I bought back in March. It has lived a hard life apparently and is rather crusty.
New tire, rim tape, tube, hub and freewheel serviced.

I had a slipping FD cable slipping. It may have been from using a new shift cable thats thinner than the 1984 cables the FD was designed for. I simply made a shim out of beer can wall and it has held quite nicely. Could have used copper or brass shim too as I have a drawer full of metal bits “too small to throw away”.

...just need to build a back one. It was cathartic activity this weekend, the man who taught me how to build wheels passed away in November but I just found out last week. I built the wheel in exactly the manner he taught me. Shimano 105 hubs, DT dbl bt spokes, and MA 3 rim 36h. All NOS from my stash. Been holding on to these parts for 10+ years.

Bathtime.
While this one soaks, I’ll dismantle my new Le Champion and use the same bath water for it.

Dismantling the new to me L.C. Maybe the 26.4 is the wrong size for a 74-75 Motobecane L.C. (NR rear mech pat 74) and got the DS cup soaking. I keep reading it should be Swiss

I was at a friend's cabin fishing and he had a neat 1989ish TREK 820 leaning against the garage.
Luckily it was under a tarp and an overhang. As you might imagine, spiders galore.
He asked me to take it home, as he has succumb to the ebike craze.
I got it home and have it currently stripped down to the bare frame.
In the process of greasing all greasables.
It will will have fresh Schwalbe Billy Bonkers, Kool Stop brake pads, a Ritchey straight/wide handlebar, a Brooks saddle (haven't decided which one), a Wald newspaper boy front basket and an old Blackburn MTB rack rack.
It will need new cables all around. Not to mention a chain.
Luckily I have everything here except for the Schwalbes.
For a max couple hundred $$$ outlay it should make a really fun fishing/gravel touring bike.
Stock foto included for grins. Thrilled this didn't end up in their township landfill.

Today, even though I have 40+ bikes surrounding me (most of which are C&V-eligible), 30+ of which are going back out again after some work on them, I took advantage of a sub-100 degree day to reorganize the back yard work area, and the tool bins. It's almost like a free yard sale when you find long-lost and long-sought tools in the back of the bin - including a few "Brev Camp" ones I forgot I had. Now I'm that much closer to being ready for what promises to be a very busy bike-fixing season.

New Cinelli stem/bars, Fizik tape and Athena brake levers on the Bottecchia.
It had been sooo long since I routed aero levers. I didn't even remember if the rear cable went inside or outside the front!

This frame was bought, shipped, lost. refunded, found, offered back to me at a better price, bought again, shipped again, and finally received today.
A 1985 53cm Dave Moulton Recherche. The spec and materials are the same as the Fuso, built as a private label frameset it differs from the Fuso in cosmetic details. this is S/N 009 out of 200 ish produced.
The photos are as received, no rust, no dents, lots of paint chips, and very dirty but otherwise sound. Clean up has started, this will take a few days

For an upcoming vacation trip I wanted to add a front bag to mrs non-fixie's De Vos. So a small front rack and a bag support were needed.
This bike is fitted with single pivot side-pull brakes which limits the possibilities when it comes to small racks. The only one I had that would work was nr 1 from the line-up:
To support the top of the bag I decided to cobble together something, using a piece of aluminum tubing, a threaded rod, a lamp bracket and a couple of nuts which originally held a water bottle:
The result felt sturdy enough and didn't look too bad, IMO:
How it looked on the bike:
With the bag:
We did a test ride later today, and mrs non-fixie was happy with the result. Apparently the the interference with the DL-80's I feared wasn't an issue:

on the spectrum….
…. in bike salvage purgatory
finally got enough seat post dissolved to call it done. I think. Any sane person would have given up. But no. I gotta be on the spectrum!
attemped to roll out a bit of this significant ding.
declaring it bondo time.
added some cable stops
thought I needed fender bosses but there’s some threaded holes in the drop outs
i got a fork made by Mission Bike- I think I’ll add fender bosses to it. I guess. Later.
going to clean it up for primer. I’m not planning on stripping bear. bare. Stripping Bear- could be a good heavy metal band name.
cheers
It’s no lie. It’s lye. And now a dead patch of grass.
Should have used a saw with a wide kerf

As found, Specialized Rock Hopper Comp! Took it apart, lubed it, put it back together… I’ve got one more original cable to change… It was a summer company favorite! Great purple to brown fade paint! Everything was adjusted very little about 10 years ago! All Deore LX… One of the bicycles that will never go!

I'm in the middle of converting my '60s Triumph three-speed to run square taper. Finding the right 70mm (as Sheldon recommends) spindle to get the chainline right and work with the existing cups has been a challenge. I know - horror of horrors, a winter photo - but that's the best photo I have. I like old steel cottered cranks, they look fantastic, but for whatever reason (q factor maybe?) my knees hurt, so I've converted my bikes to run square taper. I found a very nice Surly steel chainwheel to look the part. This bike normally runs a 1980 Sturmey Archer S5.1 five-speed hub, which I'm going to rebuild this winter as low gear is slipping. Right now it has a 1950s AW three-speed that I rebuilt a few months back as a place-holder. I'm torn as to whether I'll build an aluminum wheelset for this bike - maybe just the front wheel to aid braking.

I guess if it has wheels, the wrenching is never ending.
A hot day in a slow parade. Over heated and burned a couple of valves. This going to cost some money.
I did put air in the tires of my Technium yesterday, that's sorta like wrenching on a bike.
