The idea is good but über saying we don't want to pay for it pass it off to our customers or restaurants is just silly. They even dump their dock-less e-bikes and e-scooters on cities and force them to deal with it and they made over 31 BILLION dollars in revenue in 2022. They could easily afford to help at least the people who work for their service get new bikes at low cost or no cost if they aren't going to pay them and going to keep raising the rates for customers.
It may not solve the problem but it will at least by their way of helping it. They seem to be saying, we can't solve it so we might as well just raise costs for everyone else so we can fund a program that doesn't solve the problem but takes responsibility and cost off of us.
I think overall the program is a fine start and certainly will help but it is a tough one to get people going on but if promoted right and if all these delivery services really commit to it and help subsidize the bikes further or have a fair and reasonable payment plan for the bikes it could be great. A Tern Quick Haul would be a perfect bike for these folks and with it being Bosch it is most sensible as it is a long life bike with good support 10+ years down the line. Maybe have delivery riders sign an 19 month contract where $100 a month is taken out towards the bike and then in those 19 months they have paid for the bike and are free and clear. They aren't profiting off of anything and nobody is being exploited in the process but they are doing a good thing and actually committing to the issue that needs to be solved in a positive way that doesn't effect others. Don't take the money from your customers and from taxpayers to fund the project take it from the companies that made billions last year and do all sorts of shady things.
If they bought 10,000 Tern Quickhauls themselves at the $1900 price point which probably would be much lower at cost and at quantity they would only spend collectively 19 million dollars which is a lot to anyone else but is change to über and others I mean a billion is 1000 million so just taking 19 million of that isn't much and with the good publicity it would generate and the happy staff or "contractors" it would create it would make them more profits in the long term.
