Microshift BS-T09 question

I just bought a pair of these, 2/3x9, off of CL. Does anybody know if they will work in friction mode for a 7 speed cassette?

I would have asked before I purchased them. However yes they should work frictionally though I would rather have a good retro-friction shifter for that. Indexing shifters are best for indexing and friction shifters are best for friction. If I was in an emergency then yes switch to friction on my indexing levers but that would generally be it.

they were a good deal, so I figured if they did not work in friction mode, I would get a larger cassette and use them in index mode. They are for my winter MTB project.

I guess but if you don't need them and didn't have a 9 speed set up are they really a good deal?

I would do a 9 speed set up. Still plenty of decent quality parts in the aftermarket and with 11-32 fewer gaps. I had a 7 speed bike which I converted to 9 speed and was way happier without the gaps. The ratios were the same but not feeling like I had missing gears was nice. This of course was a 1x set up.

If they don't work out for you, I'll take them off your hands. I have several bikes with 9-speed cassettes. I'm close by- I work in Portland, live in Vancouver.

I had no idea if you could run it in friction.

But the Microshift website states the BS-T09 can be run in index or friction for the rear derailleur. There is even a nice video demonstrating the installation and how to change from index to friction.

From that information I would say yes.
