I had an excel spreadsheet I lost that had a bunch of tabs including a gear inch table, ability to plug in a chainring size and see speed be rpm for common cog sizes, have splits for 200m, 500m, 1000m for various speeds and cadence, etc. Anybody have a copy they would be willing to email me?

The Stopwatch is really, really cool (if I do say so myself). It's primarily a timing tool, but the best part is, if you enter your gearing, it will give you cadence data along with your normal stopwatch data.

Further, the TT Simulator will let you model out "what if" scenarios with gearing and times for distances to answer questions like, "If I want to ride a 35s 500M, what cadence should I average for this gear ratio?" It's really powerful. It's a Pursuit calculator on steroids...err...creatine!

What event? Was my faster or slower than the official time?

I guess you have to take into account the fact that the app assumes that you'll ride exactly on the measurement line (which is impossible). So, actual times will be slightly higher as we travel a little more than the measured distance.

2km pursuit. Your app was about third of second faster, but I only took guess at my ramp up time and distance based on what I remember about the ride and my first lap time.

Well, I set it up so that you could change any of the variables and it recalculates. So, could reverse-engineer backwards from your time and see what your ramp-up probably was.

If you really want a fun exercise: I've determined that there is a direct relationship between top speed and flying 200M time at TTown (within 0.1s). I've tested it with multiple riders and the results are very good.

Edit: So this means, if a rider can record his/her top speed during a flying 200M, I can tell them what the resulting 200M time would be +/- 0.1s.

This is a good read that a buddy just turned me on to. The blogger pretty much shows what goes on in the mind of a masters (and elite, for that matter) track sprinter.

I've been following that guy for a couple years. He's definitely your stereotypical Type-A masters nutcase. The kind with power data flowing from his ear holes, not the kind that's a jerk to his wife at the finish line. It's a cool blog, but it strikes me as more of a record of his own thoughts for himself more than it is a true learning resource. Not to say there aren't a few nuggets here and there, of course!

Say, anybody got any sort of aero data or comparisons regarding the Casco Warp? I'm in the market for an aero helmet, and of course that bad ***** is at the front of my mind. . . assuming it's at least as fast as a helmet I could get by with wearing on the road.

The Casco Warp is too hot to wear on the road. The documentation says "for events 1KM or less". I seriously would not consider using it for anything other than short track events.

Pointy helmets seem to be faster than round ones based on what I see top teams using. The only time they use round helmets is for short events when they cannot use pointy ones (like match sprints or keirin)

^not exactly. in match sprints and keirin, various short-tailed and k-tail helmets are allowed - the lazer wasp air is mass-start legal, the kask bambino is VERY popular in sprints and keirins.

aerodynamics can surprise the eye so it's hard to go with rules of thumb. but if you had to go for a rule of thumb beyond "it depends," it's perhaps that a pointy or k-tail helmet has aerodynamic benefit if the head is sticking up a little bit; a round one has benefit (especially with a visor) if the head is at or below the shoulders.
