The Blue Smoke On The Water is a 54. Right now its all GPX but soon it too will be 10 speed. The white saddle didn't work for me. 30 miles had me bleeding but other than that I think it fits me a little better than the 56. The

Oh that's Sweet. Too bad about the saddle because that looks good on there.

...So I get down said hill and it's really getting dark, you literally see the thunderstorm rolling in. So I take off my shades. Immediately, my Ironman feels like it has shrunk. My perspective has completely changed. It feels like I've gone from a 700c wheeled bike to a 24 inched wheeled bike (IDK what the equivalent C tire is). As I've said it's happened before. However it was the fast descent or taking off the shades. I gotta believe it's the removing of the shades as I ride that hills every Wednesday.
Bitd I only wore Oakley shades, the pilot ones for training and the blades for racing. But now I only wear Ironman shades (I think I have at least four different models of them).
So my question is, has thus ever happened to you and do you think it's the shades?
Also maybe RT should use that technique to trick his 56cm to feel smaller and he can keep his current herd, hehe.
In all seriousness it was the weirdest phenomenon, I felt like I was 7 feet tall or that I was riding a kids bike.

I usually carry two sets of glasses if it's near dawn, dusk or I plan to be out riding all day and night. I'll tuck a pair of clear glasses that are identical to my sunglasses into my road helmet vents -- both are safety glasses with 1.5 or stronger reading lenses at the bottom of the lenses.
My vision differs quite a bit between the two eyes, so I tend to switch from sunglasses to clear glasses as soon as the light dims a little. Otherwise the difference in focus between the two hinders my depth perception with sunglasses near dusk.

I got some white 3M electric tape and WD-40 from Home Depot today and finished the bar tape.
The hoods, I cleaned with WD-40 after the pics and wow that thing really works and it is soo easy - I brushed with some detergent and got out most of it, but lot of work and didn't get that white.
While doing the rear derailleur cable/housing notice the Jag-wire has straight cables for the housing and much more thinner than the one that was originally on the bike. They have their reasoning, but seems more fragile than the traditional ones.
It turns out the housing size for the RD was the same size as the brake cable housing and got nice using the original housing end caps.
Have the MF-TZ31 that is 7 speeds 14-16-18-20-22-24-34 but planning on replacing with the MF-TZ30 6 speeds 14-16-18-21-24-34.
And, the front has 38-52T - I need easy gear for my legs .
Will have the cables cut to right length and end cap on them after putting some miles.

For those white hoods, this is the best stuff I've found so far: LA's Totally Awesome oven cleaner. Costs a whole buck at Dollartree. Smells like mostly ammonia, probably some strong surfactants too because it cleans better than window/mirror cleaners with ammonia. I follow up with a sponge dampened in plain water.
I try not to use it too often. Strong ammonia may eventually damage rubber. But when nothing else worked, this stuff did.

Very nice, appears to be very original Comp TA at Velo Classique in Purcellville, VA. They will ship. Asking $425. Shimano friction 600. I'm guessing an 84?
Interesting stem, too. Rims look almost unused.

Reportedly, the new freewheels are manufactured differently than the original ones thereby making them wider or (taller when layed side by side).
Someone posted their findings a few pages back. If you use an original freewheel you shouldn't have that problem, even if screwing on a 7 speed.

Found this pic - it is a bit blurry since was focusing the big cog and guide pulley.
Have good clearance between the 14T and chainstay/dropout.

Been down with a cold the past few days, but have been working on the Ironman in fits and starts. I've finally got it ready for a test ride. Way back when, when I was figuring out what I needed to build it up, I put aside a box of components. This morning(of course I forgot about it), I dug out a well used tricolor rd and a 2200 fd; then when I was cleaning up I found the nicer ones there in the box. Oh well, not a big deal to replace them. An odd thing---The band clamp bolt on that fd is neither 8 nor 9 mm. I had to dig deep into my pile of bike tools inherited from my dad to find something that would fit. The Benotto calipers had similar issues.
Well, it seems my phone and my laptop are choosing not to sync. I'll get a pic up later.

I also found out that the bolt for the fd clamp is like 2 size bigger than brakes and rd. I though it was an odd thing on my bike only.
