OP loses points for not specifying that his two crabons are no-name Chinese. That’s playing Russian Roulette.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned GoPro.
Maximum risk is achieved whenever a GoPro is involved.
People take all kinds of risks whenever a camera is present.

All the above and I ride the C5 and surface streets in Metro-Manila during rush hour, sometimes after dark without my cape, jockstrap or blinky light in the back. To quote Sir Galahad: “Look, it's my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can.”

I literally could not care less about everything else in your post, but I got run over by car that was running red light, and I could not see it coming because it was behind another car. If you search my posts you will be able to find traffic camera still photos of this incident posted on this very forum. I probably could have heard it coming, if I did not listen to music using BOTH earbuds.

Before I rode with earbuds I had a slight scare with a car approaching a curve where I was stopped at a stop sign. There was another car so close behind the approaching one that I didn’t see it until I almost pushed off into the cross road. I guess I had double checked traffic the opposite direction and was distracted. It wasn’t even a close call, just a surprise. But it impressed upon me the danger of cars hiding behind other cars. This has carried over in how I cross green lights. Especially when a huge van is stopped in the first or second lane. You can’t tell if a car hidden behind that van is stopping or not.

I’m very sorry that happened to you.

After reading several safety threads here lately it occurred to me just how dangerous my life has become:
1. I have not one, but two crabon bicycles
2. Both crabon bicycles have crabon forks!
3. I have three bicycles with meat slicer-sharp disk brakes
4. I have two bicycles with knife-sharp through axles
5. I have two bicycles running road tubeless
6. I've removed ALL reflectors and dork disks from all three bicycles
7. I run clipless pedals...once I almost fell over
8. I sometimes listen to music while I ride...with BOTH earbuds
9. I sometimes ride without gloves
10. I don't wear any day-glow hi-vis anything
11. Edited to add bladed spokes on one bicycle
What's to become of me?

I ride 80 gear inches. My average speed is 17-18mph. I can do 12 miles in about 40min on average. That may not be strava KOM fast, but it’s fast enough. My brake is a Dura ace 7400 single pivot, so no hot meat slicers I’m afraid. And my bike frame is black. For whatever any of that is worth.
i prefer sour candies, and I hate diet anything.

* For "fast enough" I refer you to Mario Andretti. He knew a bit about speed.

I've ridden about 500 miles without replacing the missing stem cap on my rear wheel.

The only danger you pose on the road is to yourself. Bad drivers are way ahead of you.

I run without EITHER Presta cap. I know if one comes off at speed it could put an eye out, but I just plain don't care. And it's not even a weight weenie thing. I just like the extra danger.

Pshawww! Running with one on and the other off imbalances the bike, causing it to fishtail by a picometer on every turn. Sure, no one can see the fishtail and I can't really feel it, but I know it's there!!!!!! And it's damn scary.
