Y'all be careful if you're doing the HNHH in Wichita Hotasballs Falls. I was trying to get ready for it but after a couple of longish rides this weekend I doubt I'll be in shape. Did 70 miles Thursday, seemed okay, but was so wiped out the next day I slept all of Friday. Tried again Saturday, did 60 miles in the morning and finished by 11:30 am. The last 10 miles were miserable, could barely move my legs. Took a "nap" Saturday afternoon and couldn't get up until Sunday afternoon. Can still barely stumble around Sunday evening.

No way I'd be able to finish the full hundred this year. And I'm not gonna bother unless I sign up for the full 100 miles. I think I'll try for next year. My tank only runs 30 miles this year without red-zoning, 50 if I'm lucky.

The first 60 miles are fast and easy. When you turn South West at Burkburnett at mile 60 it starts getting a little tough. You go mostly West to about mile 78 then turn South straight it into the blast furnace to about mile 90. Last year the wind was about 17mph. At mile 90 you go South West for about 5 miles and the rest of the way is West but you are well done by then. The whole route is pretty flat what makes it tough is the temperature and the wind. My daughter granddaughter & I did it last year, it was my second time and their first. They said if they ever did a century again it wouldn't be in Wichita Falls in August.

Then we did Ragbrai and now they are thinking they might do it again. I am going to try to do whatever they do but my eye may not go along with that idea. It feels fine now but it doesn't have sweat sun & wind in it. The granddaughter plans to do the endurance ride then the gravel ride and run a half the next day. If she does she is truly a Iron Maiden. She plans to ride her Centurion on the endurance ride and a '97 GT LTS 2 on the gravel.

OK, I'm completely confused by what is going on there.

So, one of the seals was gone. I found an o-ring that fit. I put the fork in upside down and took a picture strictly for size reference. You can see that the o-ring is the right size to replace the seal. That's it, nothing more.

Low budget here as always, but don't worry Robbie will do it proper 80's style. Maybe I can dig up a yellow saddle paired with celeste cages and wrap.

OK , not a IM and I'm not really sure if it's a Turbo . I do like the Shimano Arabesque , kinda sorta reminds me of the first Centurion I built over 10 yrs. ago . Well not really , I wanted to use Araebesque , but the RD wouldn't fit so I went Santee' . I think the drive side chain stay is the give away on what this really is . And yes I cut off the fender mounts .

Well Irongents it's time. I've got to organize my bike parts. I have 5 laundry size containers full of Ssstuff. Most is from Ironman or cannondale bikes. I'm thinking handlebars, stems, seatpost in one, saddles ,pedals, and tubes in a other and so forth. Hopefully I can get it down to 3 or 4 containers.
How do you have your parts separated?

Condensed the 5 to 4 totes/baskets.
Look what I found. This is enough to convert my tri specific '89 Ironman to a straight up road bike.
I'm gonna make the transition as easy as possible by swapping out the whole cockpit. Thereby allowing me to return it to tri bike mode much easier. So cables and all will come off whole.
I have here pictured, BA 115 42 bars, tricolor 6400 brake levers, TTT? stem, and selle Italia tri saddle. Also, since this is already a 7 speed, I'm "borrowing" @canklecat 7 speed tricolor 6400 shifters.

I took the wheels off this bike to put on my '88 Carbon Ironman as it would take an 8 speed cassette. So I put the original wheels back on, which BTW is a HG 7 speed cassette.
So here's a pic before road bike transformation.

I'm in the middle of sorting parts right now, and at the moment it's a mess.

I should leave the '89 Expert alone because it's dialed in for comfort and function -- although I need to replace the KMC Z50 plain narrow chain with the Z72. The Z50 was fine with the Suntour freewheel, but the SunRace prefers the fancy shaped Z72 (which has gotten confusing now that KMC has renamed some chains and eliminated others).

But there's that sweet Nitto B65LL bar with just slightly less reach and drop than the stock Win Pista bar... but, nah. I should save it for another bike project. The Win Pista bar is fine as-is, has fresh wrap and everything is working properly. I should save the Nitto B65LL for use with brifters, so I don't end up too stretched out like I did with the Trekenstein before switching to FSA Omega compact drops and shorter stem.

And I have a bunch of chainrings scattered around, trying to settle on a combo for the Trekenstein. I'm pretty satisfied with the 52T Biopace now that I've tried that trick of reorienting the elongated lobe one notch counterclockwise. But that same trick didn't suit the 42T small Biopace ring. Now there's a dead spot in my cadence that wasn't there before. So that little ring needs to go back to its original orientation.

On the other hand, the Ironman with 50/39 chainrings and 13-25 SunRace freewheel has been just about perfect for our roller coaster terrain. So maybe I should switch the Trekenstein to that setup.

On the fifth hand, if I got another roll of Arundel Synth Gecko bar wrap I could revise and rewap the Ironman freely, since the Arundel wrap has no adhesive, doesn't take a set or permanent curl, and can be reused indefinitely.

Meanwhile, bits and pieces are scattered around in various cardboard boxes.

I really need to reorganize my plastic bins, throw out these cardboard boxes and move a heavy duty utility shelf to a more useful location in the apartment. The spare bedroom is unused now so that's the most sensible place.

Or maybe I should just go for a bike ride and clear my fuzzy head.

I know you have a soft spot for skinwall tires. Check out the Conti Grand Prix Classics. Lately they've been going for $30-$35 each on Amazon and a few other sites. 700x25 only. Good looking tires, and true skinwalls not just gumwalls or brownish looking sidewalls. The sidewalls are translucent against the light.

Frankly they don't roll any better or feel any different from the Conti Ultra Sport II for half the price. But the GP Classics look good and cost less than the other Conti GP 4k and 5k series.

I've ridden 'em for a few hundred miles on the Trekenstein, but I think I'm gonna take 'em off and save them for another project where skinwalls would suit the look. The cheaper Ultra Sport II 700x23 rode just as well and may be more durable without that thin skinwall.

Same Black Chili rubber compound, but...not as fast a tire as a GP 4000SII. In my personal testing, they are just a skooch faster.

The Vittoria graphene skinwalls are just as fast as the GP, and sometimes you can get them on sale for a reasonable price.

Here is the centurion salmon vs their shade of red.. for color reference you know. I find it curious how the little color accents in teh logo decals differ from bike to bike.

I am happy to have joined the club. Picked it up today for $75. All original except for the Technomic stem. This will go on my trainer over the winter. In the spring I'll see whether it will fit some 37mm gravel tires.
