Yeah, pretty positive mine is something else. I found another photo that shows the Nitto rack has threaded holes for the hardware, not nuts.

So what now? I bought it from eBay and it was listed as Nitto. How much does that matter? It does sort of chap me more than I expected.

Yeah I don't know. I've never been in that situation with any ebay transaction, but I don't use it much. I'm sure others here could give you advice. Clearly it was misrepresented. OTOH, it is quite possible the seller did not know that it wasn't actually Nitto. Nitto are cr-mo, not stainless, btw.

On the plus side, maybe that's why you actually have heel clearance with your 'campee'. The lowriders look like they are positioned farther back.

My campee is pretty buried at the moment, or I'd pull it out for a couple photos, but it looks like the ones you posted.

For anyone interested in the Campee, this person has a particularly nice set up. Traveling by Bike
I say that cuz my Rivendell is set up mostly the same racks and bags, at least in camping mode.

Take it up with the seller and efbay, they will probably plead ignorance but efbay will side with you if they advertised it as something they cannot prove it is.

That being said, I still think it looks pretty good and if you can get a chunk back I would use it.

Yeah, I’m not claiming the seller misrepresented this on purpose. I’ll contact them, or it will drive me insane.

Yes, I asked for a refund. It’s not that it’s a terrible rack, I just would prefer to have the real McCoy

Fortunately the policy says that on misrepresented items the Seller is obligated to cover the original and return shipping. That is a relief, because shipping was $30.00, which could be 50-60 after all is said and done. I think that is the way I’m going.

That is not a picture of my rack. That is a picture pulled from the web to show the differences. Pictures of my rack are in post #23 .

It looks more like a concept version of the Velo Orange campeur front rack, but then in a rear version.

I was guessing it might be Velo-Orange too. I think the thing that bothers me the most is the difficulty mounting / removing the low-rider attachments. The bottom low-rider bolt has a large void between the lowrider rack and the main rack, it's just filled with a couple thick washers and presto tube washers.

Yeah that might get annoying quickly. Are the holes not threaded? You could thread them yourself with a tap and use a slightly bigger bolt to attach them?

Returning sounds like the right choice to me.

Resolution. I was set to send it back. Thinking about removing the low-rider racks like others suggested, the extra long mounting posts started to bug me since they were more exposed. I'm definitely removing it from the Melton, I just don't like it on there. I'm going to find another bike to mount it on, possibly one of my mountain bikes, or even my daughter's trail-a-bike. Not sure.

The ebay seller offered a discount, or full refund. He was reasonable to work with, and I accepted the discount. In my heart, I want to send it back and start over, but as someone who sells on eBay occasionally... that seems cruel.

I am going to try to tap the rack with threads, because the nylock nuts and spacers really suck. I may try to mount the rack without the long attachments. There are threaded Boses to attach to a fender, may give it a shot for a cleaner install.

That's really cool. Especially now- with everything going on for everyone. You're entitled to it- but that makes the seller out more than half the cost of the rack.

Good on you!
