Sixties Columbus tubing sticker...

It so happens that I ended up with a double order of these old Columbus tubing stickers. I order two (the only two left) but ended up getting four (long story). Anyway, the sticker is for my mid sixties Torpado Professional. If anyone needs one of these guys - free, shipping included or $100.00 US plus shipping. Your choice...

That is a bit of a surprise for me. I would have thought sixties based on the items fitted to my Torpado Professional. This is the original sticker and sports the original dove, rather than the more stylized ones that came later. I believe the decal/sticker represents mid fifties to mid/late sixties...

Now, if the bike is later, great. I will dump that Grand Sport transmission in favor of a Nouvo Record. I want the Torpado to be a rider...

That said, everything else points to an early to mid sixties bicycle - Ambrosia handlebar, 1960 Brooks Competition saddle, Universal Model 61 brakes. crank set, to mention some items. Perhaps the serial number will help me figure out the vintage of this old Italian bike...

You are correct. The decal on your Torpado appears to be from 1953-1961, which would be all red with gold lettering. Notice, however, the wording across the bottom of the original decal is GARANTITI, vs "COLUMBUS" on the decal you have for sale.

This should explain it further: https://cyclesroland.wordpress.com/2...ecal-timeline/

This is from the article above. Slight variations through from 50's to early 70's in shading and outlining. We'd have to see similar Torpado's of that era to figure it out. Too bad the original decal had faded so badly. Any way Baggio might be able to help ID the year?

Truly! Were the decal not faded, it would be easy to decide which of those presented was correct. Based on the components fitted and knowing a bit of the bike's history, I am going to go with decal "62" for now.

Since the entire decal faded to the same shade, rather than having the oval fade to a different tone, I suspect it would have been the single color red with gold text from 1953-61. After all, the bike's Gran Sport rear derailleur has the cable adjuster, which ended in 1959.
