Motobecane vs Peugeot
I recently acquired a 1981 Motobecane Jubilee Sport and today I got a 1985 Peugeot P8. Both are in similarly good condition and the same size. The Motobecane has a lugged frame, the P8 no lugs. I’m thinking of refreshing one and maybe modernizing it a bit to keep at Moms house for when I visit and for a great nephew to ride when he comes around. I have enough spare parts to probably refresh one. I’m wondering which bike deserves the attention.
Are there any opinions on which bike I should look at first? Any thoughts on issues I may have? I’m aware that there are possible French, Swiss or English standards but haven’t started checking into what these two bikes might have.

The Jubilee Sport. Full Vitus 888 plain gauge frame and fork with all alloy components. A very nice ride.

And yes I agree on the bikes, Moto TC/CT/SC are one of my favorites of all time, way classier than any PX-10 and many others as well.

I give Motobecane high marks for switching from French to Swiss BB threading in the mid-1970s, about 5 years ahead of Peugeot. I also give Motobecane credit for recognizing the superiority of SunTour derailleurs over any of the French alternatives.

I concur. Peugeot got sloppy during the Bike Boom of the early 1970s, and evidently stayed that way. My 1980 PKN-10 has brazing splatter and even a void on one of the rear dropouts, and the paint has not aged well at all. In contrast, my Bianchi, a comparably upper midrange model, built late in 1981, has far better fit and finish, and it still looks great.

I would say get them both rideable and then ride them to see. I am Moto biased as the owner of a Vitus tubed Grand Touring and with nothing else to go on (Pics???) would say the Jubilee sports seems like a cut above

The Motobecane in this case is the better bike. Run with it.
The P8, for what it was back in the day and what it offered, was a damn good ride for what it was. But the alternative in this case is superior.
