It's easy to fail at easy. Most people fail the easy rides, especially if they roll with a group.

Ah, that three hour mellow spin yesterday was exactly what I needed to not-fail my workout today. Yesterday I was feeling a little bit like death and my legs were completely toast, but I had a great 4.5 hours today.
I think I need a resting failure status thread. There is still room for vacation riding failure tomorrow, but if all goes as planned that will be 10 days in a row of 3-5 hour rides.

rolled out today with a group got my butt handed to me... learned my indoor fitness and outdoor fitness are quite different at this point
my gf also had some minor mechanical issues so I turned back as I was starting to fall ofb to make sure nothing serious had happened (it waas her first outdoors ride in a few months after a bad crash)
didn't ride at all this week and it took me way too long to get my legs moving and feeling strong I also started out way too hard for this early in the season

About to go do a 45 minute recoveride. I might fail on this one, but I'll try my best to go easy enough to succeed.

Epic fail. It was 32* when I rolled out. 30m warmup then 1 hour of SST, my hr never got above low z2. 30m of endurance pace...The wind shifted to the north and the temps dropped. I started to shiver and couldn't get warm at all...came home and hit the rollers and tried to do the first of 2 30m FTP intervals....10m into it my hr was barely touching z3. I bagged it and did another 30m of easy spinning.
To sum up..this sucked.

Wound up with 55 minutes. Ran into one of the former employees of a bike shop that shut down a few months back. He's in his 50's and back in school to become a med-tech. We had a nice chat.

On Friday, I thought I was recovered from a 24hr stomach bug. Rode 35 miles. Felt really crappy, but I figured I just hadn't had enough calories/fluids since Wed AM. Friday evening, I discovered this was no 24hr bug. Did not stay up to ring in the new year. Just ate my first semi substantial meal. Down about 8lbs from last weekend. Holiday weekend fail.

Before I hopped on the trainer tonight, I gave a great thorough clean to a cassette, patched a tube, and setup a wheel. About 15 minutes in, it was feeling too easy. I ramped up the wattage on the computrainer; still easy. Inspected the tire -- flat as could be. Too late to regroup. And the Celtics and Die Hard were on. Shame. Maybe double workout tomorrow. I used to live in Illinois and I would bike commute in that. However I was living in an area where most (but not all) people knew how to drive in those conditions. In Tennessee I would be more concerned about getting creamed by an out of control car than staying upright with that dusting of snow on the pavement.

If you open a box of cookies, and they are all broken, they have half the original calories, right ?

Heading to Mexico w some family today. Have an uncle who spends much of the year in Gonzaga Bay, about a day's drive south of San Felipe on the Cortez side.
Planned on getting up early to do the local Pendleton hammerfest. Fail #1
Decided to sleep another hour (big mistake) and do some tempo by myself. Upon waking my fam was up and I got bombarded with chores. Fail #2
I'm gonna be fat and out of shape when I get back; I'll have some work to do.
Living at home and freeloading off of my parents is sweet and all, but you start to feel worthless and miss having control over your own schedule after a couple weeks.
EDIT: I also failed on my 3.5 hr ride yesterday. My excuse was because I have a weak cold, but the real reason was that the thought of more solo z2 miles bored me to death.
