Score! (Warning: Club Fuji Content)

So i was writing my last post on my old Hercules and took a brief break to look on Craigslist.

It was, for a change, a good idea. Sometimes, not often, that happens to me.

Posted was a mid/upper-mid range Fuji Club bike for the low, low price of free! It had a location and said it would be by the curb so I took a drive and it was still there. It's my size, too! The owner was sitting out front and said he got it from his aunt and that he'd never ride it.

It looks _really_ nice, everything is there, I can hardly find a scratch on the paint and should be super easy to get on the road. It's really dusty and obviously hasn't been ridden in a long time, but all I'm currently planning on are tires, tubes, cables and clean up.

Attached is the pic from the ad. I'll probably do a clean-up thread sometime, but wanted to gloat, just a bit.

Nice score! Frame pump, too! The ketchup and mustard color scheme shouldn't appeal (to me, that is), but I like it- and the chrome fork crown is a nice touch.

Some say there is nothing more expensive than a free bike, but I think you did okay. My son has a later model Club Fuji that I picked up for only $20. It needed the usual consumables, i.e. tires, cables, bar wrap, but also new bearings in the bottom bracket. It had sat outside long enough that water had accumulated and several bearings were corroded away. I updated it with STI levers after he took a nasty spill while shifting the downtube levers. I think I have still less than $100 total invested.

Nice pick up! Club Fuji are wonderful the one I had needed post removal i bought as a frame and slowly collected the Cyclone group.

One of the most attractive builds, good ride. The offset of the fork to the steertube is different.

Great pick up! Club Fuji bikes are nice riders as well as nice looking. I had this one pass through my hands last year and I really had to fight myself to let it go. I still regret not keeping it, but I just have to make difficult decisions.
Nokton could we please see some pics of your new score from the drive side? Show it off a little, let’s see what’s on it.

Sure. I'll take a few photos later this afternoon.

It was pretty close to my bedtime when I took that one more look at Craigslist to see if anything interesting had popped up. This bike, and the "price", was interesting enough that I took a 10 pm drive across town to see if it was still there. I was a little surprised to find that, yes, it was still sitting by the curb and available. It was too dark, and I was too tired, to take any photos last night, but I wanted to brag, just a little, hence this thread. It feels a bit like winning the lottery. Sure, it would have been better if it had been a Raleigh International (or an Alex Singer), but I'm not going to complain about this.

Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. More pictures to follow...

Here are a couple pictures that I took this afternoon. It's not quite as clean, in a damage sense, as I thought, but still pretty good and it's a lot dirtier, in a dirt sense, than I thought.

Oh, and one more thing, it's a Colnago-branded frame pump

“ not quite as clean in a damage sense”? It looks great from here, where did you find damage?

It looks like a 1985 model, which I think was the second year for the Club Fuji. The catalog and specs are online. Pretty light at 23 pounds, and with 700c wheels!

No real damage, just some paint scratches and small chips that I didn't see in the dark last night. It's still very clean for an almost-40 year old bike.

I dig the color of the OP's!

I picked up one years ago that was fairly grubby too. Cleaned up real nicethough. Enjoyed it for awhile and then passed it on to a youngster that absolutely loved it.
