Colnago Master Extra Light- Classic but not Vintage but dang sweet!

This popped up on another forum and I was one of several to express interest. Told the seller to make sure no one else wanted it before I paid. Anyway, it wound up with me and came in a couple of days ago. Haven't done anything much to it yet other than put it back together and wipe it down. The plan the last two days was to do a test ride after my real ride but I've been doing 50 milers the past three days and just haven't gotten it out. Yesterday I was tired after the ride and today I fought 20+ mph winds and an incoming storm. Didn't want to risk taking it out and getting caught in the rain. I did grab these pictures right after the ride though.

How I got it other than the pedals. 18 lbs 8 ozs

How could one resist such beauty?

Need to polish out the marks on the seat post if I stick to using it.

That’s really nice, I’ve long wanted a Master. Didn’t you get a C40 or C50 not too long ago? If so let us know how the rides compare.

Yeah, a C40 that's an amazing ride. Hard to say when it's not steel, LOL!

In fact Wednesday I took the old Calfee Tetra Pro on a 50 mile ride that went fine. Then yesterday I took the C40 on the same basic 50 mile route and all along the route. I thought about how much better the Colnago felt, mile for mile, vs the Calfee. I have high hope for this Master.

Great Taste?
Less Filling?

Did an eight mile test ride on this after knocking out 52 miles on the Kirk Terraplane this morning. Initial impressions are it's smooth, responsive and a tad nervous/unplanted on some of the rougher sections of road. Oh and I hate the bars which I knew I would. I went to get in the drops when I kicked the bike up around 25 mph and went, "NOPE"! I've alsways hated this shape bars and after the 50 miles with the compact Ritchey bars on the Kirk these felt even more terrible.

Tomorrow will be my fifth and final day of doing rides of at least 50 miles. I think what I will do is take both Colnago's out for at least 25 miles and see how they compare.

Nice bike!
I'm down to a Colnago Elegant frameset at this point.
However, I've enjoyed the Master Extra Lights I've owned over the years.

Robert, is your Master a threaded steer or threadless? My understanding is that a Master becomes extra light when it went to threadless steer. I have owned my Master since 2000 but it is branded as Master Lux (with Lux finish).

Always wanted to buy this frame in the pearl and blue art deco paint job, saw one new in R&A cycles back in 99. All the deco paint jobs were sweet looking and this looks like a fine example, nice buy.
