As for me, I have an "official" entry of my 1987 Schwinn Prologue, kitted up properly, in the outdoors (aka good lighting), looking as stealth as can be. She will give her components to another frameset soon, which makes me a little sad that the whole Black & Smoked look will be less so, but fear not (you all, and me as well), she will not suffer with inferior components. She'll be black with a bit of sparkle, and I think it will be stunning.

Full 7900 Dura-Ace, 7850 Dura-Ace wheelset, FSA K-Force carbon bars and stem, Specialized Ribcage bottle cages, Vittoria Open Corsa Evo CX tires, Prologo Scratch Pro saddle.

I bought that frame the year it came out and installed Shimano Dura Ace/600 components. One of the best riding bikes I ever owned. I had the fork chromed though, back then it only cost me $25 to do it.

Love this, I've been looking for a 25" Prologue for years now!

Really like this, and it's the right size for me!

Thanks! Keep searching, because they're worth every penny. Build period-correct if you like, but know that they're worthy of the best of modern componentry if you want. I have found that my late '80s Davidson Impulse (same size, custom blend of Prestige) is the proverbial other side of the same coin. I'd keep a lookout for one of those as well.

Just finished my new city bike!

After my ST400 got stolen, I built this up over the winter. Took me too long and need to work out a few bugs, but overall a fun test ride!

Miyata 610 had a bent fork, Aquila Strada Max had a cracked head tube. Real Frankenstein machine!

Yeah I debated having it repainted since the paint is chipped in a lot of spots but the longer I’ve had it the more I like it. I’m still thinking of doing it (maybe keeping the green and white) but so far I’ve only been able to find two options in the San Diego area: 1) powder coating it in one color for $120 or so, or 2) paying Joe Bell close to $1k to paint it.

Modern frame with old components

Since I am not a fan of all the new stuff out there (a lot of which seem to have problems due to the complexity, or whatever; based on reading stuff about "brifters", electronics, etc., expensive to buy and expensive to fix); I like the DT friction shifting (easy to fix, adjust, inexpensive) best and don't need one thousand gears, heck I've rarely used a small chainring and have been satisfied with a 6 speed rear for over 30 years; my road bike has no front derailleur, but I still have a double ring (manual shift if needed). What I'd like to do is go backwards and take my Colnago Asso (I call it the "Assole"!) and put friction shifters on it, but the tubing shape and size are preventing me from installing a set of DT clamp-on levers. Any ideas? I was thinking of custom making a clamp band to fit the tubing. I expect to have to use some sort of spacer for the freewheel since the rear spread is wider than the older frame (122mm going to a 130mm on the Asso).

Thanks all; please don't make me feel like too much of an idiot!

You would want to start a new thread and post some pictures. While most of the people here appreciate your feeling on friction, this space is for showing what can be done with modern components. Good luck.

Thanks, I was putting out a feeler, since after reading many threads they seem to seem to stray off topic quite regularly. I was just seeing if someone was already on that track.
I will put out a new thread. Thanks for keeping me on the straight and narrow.

I finally got around to painting it over the winter. I used DuPont automotive base/clear with Velocals under the clear. Decals are for an '85 Allez but I had them already. Paint is a late 90s GM dark metallic green.
Looks like you did a great job on the paint. Do you have a lot of painting experience?

Really love that font! It's so futuristic 80's, straight out of TNG or Knight Rider.

I really dig the font as well. I think the Ontare (first year Schwinn Aluminum before being renamed to all numbers) also shares the font. The wide letter Paramount font is also a favorite of mine.

Extremely seriously. I guess I know what I'm watching tonight though. (it is a bit scarce on the 'tube with most TV shows all wrapped up as well as many sports' seasons concluding).

Anyways, Miatas. Looked at NC's last night. Seat pan / rail modification to sit it down another inch (needed) is very possible. Temped, but also at that price range, temped by '04-06 GTOs, and early '00s S2000s. Decisions...

Realized that I've never posted my mutt in here.

1981 Trek 710 frameset
Campy Mirage 8spd ergos and long cage derailleur
Shifting across 6 speeds of a 7spd Shimano Hyperglide 14-28 cassette due to my 14t Uniglide lockring creating something like a 14-14-18-20-22-24-28 cluster. 126mm OLD Shimano 600EX hub.

And a Shimano 105 front derailleur shifting a SunXCD crank with Velo Orange 46-30 chainrings.

It's weird but it works.

Oh, and the fork is from a Velo Orange Polyvalent MKIII.

Once again, it's really weird, but it works quite well. Probably my favorite bike I've ever owned.
