Gosh. They really do make it sound that this stuff is asploding everywhere.
And, no, I'm not anti-carbon (I have my fair share of carbon parts). I just found their strong stance, well, STRONG.

My Miyata commuter is 40 years old, Miyata 1200 30 years old, Schwinn Voyaguer tourer 22 years old.
Will my carbon roubaix last for 40, 30, 20 or even 10 years? Me thinks not. Did it cost more than those three combined, ..oh yeah.

Its kind of hilarious reading that page saying if I work on my own carbon frame I'm going to die.. Even funnier is it looks like worse website design/code than I wrote by hand as a teenager in the mid 90 s.. Like some kind of geocities reject page.

Sounds like an LBS owner who is mad that people bring in busted carbon parts that they can't bill for because they can't service them even though they spend time giving estimates on possible repairs.

I had 30,000 miles on a Cervelo R3 when I cracked a seatstay in a crash. It cost me $250 to repair it and it is now good as new. I have about 7,000 more miles on it now. If I would have bent a seatstay on one of my steel or aluminum bikes, I would have had to throw them away.
The guy that repaired it was also working on another carbon frame that was basically cut in half. He said it would be stronger when he was done than the original bike and only just a little heavier.
If anyone is riding an inferior frame because they are afraid to ride carbon, they are foolish.

Ridiculous. Carbon is effing durable and had been used with planes for 20 years. My friend still rides his 20 year old CF Giant Cadex and still loves it after many thousand miles. Also, at this point, it is more durable than other materials, but of course frames can still break and it is often more expensive to replace than other materials, but can be repaired on many cases.
The thing is that everything breaks. Two steel frames were broken in half at a ME cyclocross race last weekend, but no carbon bikes broke. So therefore don't buy steel because it will break in cross races
The whole argument is stupid and fueled by uninformed opinion. Similar to how when someone asks for bike recommendations, everyone will say that what they ride is great. It's all a bunch of opinions and the fact is that most bikes in a given price point are exactly the same with small differences.

Bic lighters are a brilliant piece of industrial design. Their irrepairability and disposable nature is clear up front and all part of the deal.
I think the analogy transfers to carbon frames - but really, only a little bit.
Here's the thing - carbon is light and comfortable, but you are *so* likely to change your carbon bike before it deteriorates because of age. Plus, people tend to tell you about the short life of carbon when they are either trying to sell you something else or more likely trying to reassure themselves how clever they were to buy a mithril frame.
