That's my fault. I called it an Expert in the "are you looking for this?" thread based on the teal color, but on closer look I see it's a LeMans RS?

I'll try to make it up to you. I 'll keep searching in the Mid Atlantic for your potential bike. What is the exact(small) size and any particular year/color preference?

Look at the condition of the hoods. That's a clean, minty bike! Probably smells fresh as well.

My Miami Mistake

I drove up to Oklahoma City to buy this Miami Vice and another Expert. The ad said 54 CM which is my height. In all of my excitement, I didn’t measure the bike and it turns out it’s a 58 CM. 🤬 The funny thing is I didn’t notice it until I built it and started washing it. I was scrubbing it and I thought, huh this is big for 54 CM. 🤦🏻‍♂️

That appears to have the same proportions as my '89 Expert (smoke white/blue), which measures 57cm center-to-center along the seat and top tubes. I'm 5'11", 33" inseam, and it suits me. Most comfortable of my three road bikes.

The nominal specs for Ironmen puzzles me because I can't find any standard tube measurement method that equals 56 or 58 cm.

Anyway, my rough gauge is three fingers between the frame pump peg and downtube.

I have too many bikes, having picked up a modern Colnago, a Coppi, and an Exxon Graftek. So, you're going to have to make it up some other way.....

According to this pic from the 1985 Centurion catalog they measured from the center of the bottom bracket, to the lowest point at the top of the seat tube. Not sure if that may have changed later on though.

Ahh, that helps. I'd never measured from the center of the BB to the bolt for the seat cluster clamp.

When I measure that way my Ironman is 58cm. Makes sense. Subjectively it feels a bit larger than my 56cm carbon fiber bike (and I prefer longer stems on the carbon fiber bikes), but it's hard to compare measurements of compact frames and horizontal top tube frames.

JDM Expert

Here’s something you don’t see everyday. I picked up this 1988 Japanese Domestic Market Expert from a veteran who bought it new in Japan. It doesn’t say Ironman as they didn’t recognize the Ironman overseas and it’s in a color combo not offered in the states. I threw on some tires and wrapped the bars in black Brooks tape to change the look up.
