Are certain pads and rotors not compatible?
My stock brakes were MT200 with B01S pads and Tektro TR160-2 rotors. I upgraded the brakes to M6000 with J03A pads but I kept the tektro rotors for now. They squeal like crazy! I took it apart and resurfaced and cleaned the rotors and pads and no difference. I put the B01S pads back in and total silence. Before I contact the seller who sold me the brakes is there a possible incompatibility with the new pads and existing rotors?

Once you have used one type of pad on a rotor, you need to stick with that type of pad.
If you change the pad type, you should change the rotor as well.
If you change the pad type, you should change the rotor as well.

I changed pads from semi metallic to organic compound and kept the discs.. the wet squeaking stopped..
changed front from Avid caliper to TRP Hy Rd.. kept the disc.
so it's a matter of opinion more than fact...
Using bedded in pads vs new that you did not do the bedding in preparation ?

They're both shimano resin though. Might be different compounds though. However, I resurfaced both so that would remove any bedded in material from the old pads. Shouldn't it?

Yeah, sorry, i thought the two pads were different materials. Different compounds could presumably cause the same problem.

I only had problems when I used metallic pads on a "resin only" rotor. It braked well, but squealed like mad.

I've seen lots of rotors that were stamped "resin pad only", not sure why. Probably a hardness/wear issue more than noise.
Take a power sander with a fine grit garnet sandpaper to the old rotors. Will make the rotors like new, won't matter what type of pads have been used in the past.

I did resurface the rotors using abrasive pads but I'll try it with the power sander. Weird thing is they were quiet to start but got noisier the more they were used, they maybe only have 200km on them.

Just a follow up. I ended up ordering some RT66 rotors. Squealed like hell during seating the pads but been perfect since. Seems like a much better mate to the the J03A pads than the tektros.
