any recreational bike group in the dc aea?
planning to head down to dc in spring...any1 here know any recreational bike group that tour in the dc area? preferably free and no requirement wearing helmet. thx in advance

Potomac Peddlers (PPTC) is a good group and does many rides at all levels every weekend. Rides are free and open to non-members. They do require helmets, although it's up to the ride leader for enforcement. I've only seen one or two people ride without a helmet in my 8 years of PPTC rides.
The Oxon Hill club is also a good group. Their helmet rules are similar to the PPTC's

You also might want to post in the alt forum. There used to be a "DC Bike Pirates" thread, but I think they took their discussion outside of BF
DC is a good place for solo riding, but if you need company/native guide you can post here just before you arrive and see if anyone is available to hook up with.
