disc brakes

Hi Everyone
So I decided to go with mechanical disc brakes, and got two, 203mm BB7s... I did not realize how big they are. I am a pretty big guy, 6 ft, 215lb and I usually carry 70oz of water, gear, etc. so probably around 225 lb total on the bike.

Are all brake rotors interchangable?
I have no idea...

Thanks
Stan

If you wanna go smaller, you will need different mounts for your calipers. There are two main rotor mounts...6 bolt & centerlock.

I have V brakes on my bike right now, but the front fork and the frame has the places where you can mount the disc brakes. So it should be okay? I ordered some new rims with the 6 hole mount that should get here next Tuesday.

Do you know if the Avid BB7 203mm front and rears are easy enough to install by myself or would you recommend taking it to a bike shop?

Thanks for the reply,
Stan

Rotors are rotors. The correct size and matching adapters will work with any brand. No need to go all Avid, or Hope, or Magura, etc.

If you know how to properly use a quick release, installing a BB7 yourself is easy. Follow the instructions that came with them. Yes, that means reading it before you start. Get yourself a quality cable housing cutter.
