Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Hate all you want, this movie looks entertaining as hell.

Plus I <3 JGL. Ever since Angels in the Outfield.

I had to wikipedia this to verify. It's true, he's in Angels in the Outfield.

I just cringed the entire time thinking of the social implications. Especially how he said no brakes means no way to stop and that you don't want to.

Hopefully this doesn't get more kids out there doing dumb brakeless stuff. Which is very different than smart brakeless stuff.

I want to hate because of trend whoring... but want to love because of JGL. Oh, the turmoil.

Also, this means riding fixed and brakeless has completely jumped the shark. Back to the zero speed I suppose...

Agreed. Though my wife and I will probably go see it.

Her, "I love JGL, and you like bikes. Date night!"

Me, "Meh..."

heh.

my wife: "i'll go, but i'll laugh. he is cute though."

and as far as being trendoid, skateboarding did survive "Gleaming the Cube". *shudder*

That trailer just makes me wish he was spiderman instead of whoever the new guy is in the reboot.

I think it would probably get less hate if they cut the first 10 seconds out of the trailer.

Theoretical spoiler alert:

yeah, so... someone trys to rat out shady police, has evidence they need to get to a particular person, tells that person of the drop at a particular time through a messenger, messenger gets intercepted by bad cops, girlfriend tries to help him, he picks up evidence since he can't deliver to intended recipient, cops nab girlfriend, big showdown warehouse scene with super fgfs tricks/escapes/fights, and because JGL and his girlfriend are so awesome at bikes they end up getting the evidence to where it needs to go and somehow defeat the whole crooked police force.

i'm thinking 13 blocks but less older stud actor bromance and more young hot actor OMGFIXAYS. still new york, still crooked cop story, still a "oops i stumbled on this ****ty situation and now i'm in the middle of it, so i may as well do the right thing and be the hero and solve the situation because i'm the protagonist" story.

or maybe i just have seen 13 blocks too much. but certainly since he gets hit before 7 and is on a hospital bed and you later see him picking up the dropped backpack, it would make sense.

Seems like it will be bad but obviously i too will end up seeing it just for sweet fixay trix.

i have a bunch of friends that worked on that film. they had some very cool camera locations and rigging equipment for the bikes. it's amazing when 5D's and 7D's are considered your "disposable cameras". that and a few go pros.

we'll see how it succeeds/flops. anyone remember triple rush? flopazilla

****. This sucks so bad. It's going to do the same thing that FnF did to the car scene, send it in a downward sprial.

Hey, but maybe not. Biking actually requires physical effort, unlike cars.
