After about three years of reading about bikes, test riding several and buying a half dozen used and setting them up in different ways, I've finally found a bike and a setup that may keep me satisfied for the immediate future. Everything else left me dreaming of a new bike. Ironically, it's the bike I started with and the same year, make and model (one size bigger) that I rode from 1995-2007.
1995 Trek 730 Multi-track (21"). It's close to final in this configuration but I've got Deore V-brakes, a Deore rear derailleur and a Deore rear shifter to install. I also want to upgrade to 38mm Schwalbe Racers and replace the seatpost and seatpost clamp with black ones. I don't plan to replace the headset unless I decide to get the frame powdercoated. Drivetrain is 1x9 (36t x 11-28). The key this time was installing a stem that I thought would be much too long and extremely wide handlebars (I'm running the grips at about 70mm). I discovered that I've been riding with my bars much too close to me and it was causing all kinds of problems.
I do hope to upgrade someday if for no other reason than to get a larger size and 1 1/8" threadless headset system. I've looked at the Surly Cross Check and the Soma Double Cross but they are virtually the same bike I'm already riding. An upgrade might mean a custom that I can have set-up for a future Rohloff purchase.

I couldn't agree with you more! The only original parts on this bike are the frame, fork, headset, seatpost clamp and rear derailleur and I plan to replace those last two. I love the look of a very personalized and well-used bike.
Swoodjr1, there are adapters that allow you to use a modern threadless stem with a 1" threaded bike. The I used is very heavy duty and I've been 100% pleased with it and it give so many more options than a traditional quill stem.
You can also buy an aftermarket 1" threadless fork but you have to replace the entire headset to use it. I've gone this route as well. Dimension makes a wide variety of aftermarket forks.

I'm not sure how high I want to raise my stem, so I will start with the Soma version and if I want something shorter, might swap to the Dimension.

My 2013 DS 8.4, the bike that started me on my cycling and fitness journey a couple of years ago.
Even though I've since bought a carbon roadie, the DS still gets a good workout !
Pretty much standard except for the RST forks ( done from the recall swapout (which is what lead me to this forum)), BBB ergostik (sm), SDG Bel Air saddle and M530 clipless

My family of hybrids
So these are my hybrids. I love them all, but I'm really loving the Verve right now.

That's why i've changed Sirrus to a new one Sirrus
Elite Carbon Disc, stock atm, but few upgrades are coming soon...
@Duvall408w nice upgrades on your bike, what is the size of stem? i've ordered 90mm instead of stock 105.

didn't know much about Evo Bikes. but for my short commute (6-7 miles round trip) into NYC, I can't complain. $399. I had the shop install continental touring plus tires for another $50. This is my first bike since my teenage bmx days..

Congrats on the purchase! It looks better in your pic than in the stock pictures found online. Now find a way to secure that lock.

I have not upgrade anything much. Just replaced a few things.
Shimano Ultegra 10 speed chain
I didn't like the stock Tektro rotors that came with the bike. They were really loud and not as smooth. So I replaced them with the following.
Front Shimano SM-RT56 160mm rotor
Rear Avid G2 Clean Sweep 140mm rotor
Shimano B01S Resin pad front and rear
I probably replace them out with XTR set when this season is over.
Continental Gatorskin 700x25c. The OEM blew up at 900 miles.
Also, I will replace out the Shimano Tiagra stuffs out with Shimano XT derailleur front and rear the end of this season. i probably keeps everything else the original.
