Cannondale F500 Headshock Issue, no lockout
Hello,
I have a Cannondale F500 that has a headshock, and it seems to rebound fine, but does not lock out. I took it to the local Cannondale dealer, which has a reputation for poor service and questionable mechanics, and it took them a month to tell me they could not get the replacement cartridge. Do any of the headshock gurus have any tips?
Cheers,
turbodrabbit

A couple shops specialize in those things because it's hard to get parts for the older ones. Link below to the one I can recall at the moment.
Freewheel Bikes/The Golden Wrench/Shockspital

I wouldn't even use the lockout. The fork settles as you ride the bike. The lock out on these forks is harsh.
I knew folks that bought these bikes new and never used the lock out.
This guy can work on your fork, and bring it up to par. You will have to remove your fork and ship it to him. He comes highly recommended, but I have no experience with him.
About $100 including shipping back and forth.

(I wonder what happened to the OP, I know the area, bet he got on MTB Forums.)

I recently sold my 1999 F500 that had the P-Bone head shock fork.. There was no lock out on that model of fork. Cannondale made 50 or more different models of shock forks with all kinds of tech from coil springs, elastomers, air compression, oil dampening. Just about any combo and amounts of travel.. They don't all have the same features.. Vintage Cannondale dot com has lots of info including a whole section just on forks. You may find your fork has no lock out option. ON some models there is a 1/4" set screw under the knob that adjust tension on the spring. If yo try to remove it, it can come out about as fast as a .22 slug so watch out if you mess with it. There is a special cannondale castle wrench for disassembly that cost $75 -$100, just to take it apart so you can find out you can' t parts anyhow. Plenty of sites about these forks and the issues. Keep it clean and lubed. Water getting in is the enemy.
