My trusty Exage 400LX RD...

...has finally given up the ghost. (7-speed triple, '92 Schwinn Crosscut.)
The second pic shows the exact piece that failed, resulting in no spring.
Might have something to do with it being about 28 years old?

I believe any long cage 6/7/8/9 speed RD will work, and since I'm leaving in ten days for a camping trip I'm kind of under the gun to get it replaced. So, I'm wondering if anyone has a parts bin RD, black, in a decent-quality model (Deore?), that they'd be willing to sell me.

Some Deore RDs were nearly identical to the Exage so that's a good replacement. With my Exage 500CX and Deore LX long cage RDs there were some minor cosmetic differences and a slight difference in the part number. Both are in use though.

Yup, thanks for that info. I've been perusing the auction site but have not seen many 500's or Deore's in reasonable condition for the price.

I have a shoe box full of them, but I'm in Mexico. Soneone here has what you need.
