Last weekend it was 60 degrees and sunny, then it rained on and off most of this week, and now it looks like we could get up to a foot of snow over Sunday and Monday. FML. This End of Civilization Winter really had me thinking it was over.

I am ready to sacrifice some goats to whatever thing is in charge. This month, really the entire year so far, has been a headscratcher. This is gonna be one of those times where it actually makes sense to buy a whole bunch of beef stroganoff MREs and watch a dozen cute buzzfeed videos on how to build a forest bunker in 5 easy steps. Then you head to home depot determined to buy the things you need to make a bunker to protect your family but you left your list at home so you shrug your shoulders in mild resignation and stop over at the ******* Barrel and eat some trout and play that ****ing triangle game that should be way easier than it actually is.

Completely messed up. Temperature for Tuesday's race? 79 F. Temperature for this weekend's races? 40 F at best.

Ugh. 5-8" of snow in the forecast as mentioned above. Super dumb. Seems like every time the roads get cleaned of salt it snows again.

I guess I'll leave the snows on the car for a bit while longer.

10% chance of rain = apocalyptic rainstorm an hour's ride from home. All weathermen must die.

Called back, shrug. Engineering VP/Director would be glad to have me. Finance guys need to keep their jobs though. The joy of a company with corporate overlords. Gotta hit the numbers for the year, or else.

Boulder, Seattle, Portland are basically the other places I'd consider moving. Valygrl, know anyone hiring product development engineers?
Expand your search a bit. You'll turn something up in a fun area too!

Doge will probably want to jump in on this, but USAC announced three days ago the three races it will use to determine which juniors it sends to its European Race Camp, which is great, except that two of the three races have already happened. Meaning any juniors who might have wanted to be in consideration for the Europe camp have already missed two-thirds of their opportunities if they didn't do those two races.

This seems like terrible planning by USAC, though I'm hardly surprised by it.

Most, if not all, of the contenders knew about these and were there. The "issue" is they require very early year fitness where this is a very long year. This favors mild winter riders (our team). The VOS TT is always (4 years) "the selector". So some historically outstanding riders DNF'd in GA, and were further down the podium than expected in AZ.
But they don't spell out what a selection race means anyway. So that it is "selection" means only that the USAC coaches are there and watching.
They say "has provided insight into athletes' capacity and abilities."
OK. It says nothing about what they see or what decisions they make based on what they see. They could just ask the parents. I think we have a pretty good idea what would win where or not. This is nothing like the soccer sidelines.

FWIW - our elite junior team is racing categories in the 3rd race - San Dimas. Daniel is skipping it. Most of that is because of the top performance in VOS. In GA Daniel was riding for a teammate. I doubt Brandon is doing any junior races in the USA outside of NC this year.

Edit Add:
I missed this "Athletes who win an aforementioned event will, at some point this season, be invited to attend a European Race Block".
Last year Sea Otter was a selection race. There was no invite after Sea Otter. I have no idea if that is new wording or not.

That does seem to be a case of piss poor planning by USAC.

Oh, so results at those 3 races aren't the be all and end all for selection?

I registered for a race yesterday..and will register for another one tomorrow. Both do call ups based on order of registration.

Both races are at the end of July..I think this is the earliest I have ever preregistered for a race!

I can comment on history.
Last year those racing in Europe for USAC were not winning in the junior selection races. Those winning some selection races, Sea Otter as an example, were not selected after that.
