Shimano 105 shifter bracket too small to fit Nitto drop handlebar

Hello,

I'm trying to put Shimano 105 5700 shifters onto my Nitto drop handlebar with 26mm clamp diameter. My shifter brackets says size 23.8-24.2. Are these sizes incompatible? Do I have to get new brackets or is there a work around?

Thanks!

The 26.0 mm is the bar diameter only for a few inches at center where the stem goes. To either side of that section, the bars reduce to a nominal 23. 8 mm and any road brake lever or brifter should fit.

You're right. The centre of the handlebar is thicker than the rest of the tubing but the fit of the shifter bracket is still extremely snug.

Are you suppose to use force to get it onto the bars? I am using Nitto M190 Euro80 handlebars.

You have to loosen the brifter's handlebar clamp screw almost all the way or even unthread the clamp entirely to get it over the bars.

I have removed the bracket completely from the shifters to try to loop it on the bars. It still doesn't fit unless I remove the bolt with the rectangular head. I think I can force it onto the handlebars but that will definitely scratch it up.

If it's the right fit should it go on perfectly?
Is it because I am fitting old style handlebars with modern shifters?

Thanks!

I can see that it works on my old setup - Cinelli 26.4 bars with Sora shifter brackets 23.8-24.2. Just don't know why my new setup isn't working. I'm going to take the old brackets to use on the Nitto bar.

You can try greasing the bar and gently turning the clamps to work them around the curve.

Thanks, I greased it along with using the old brackets. Guess they stretched over time..

Useless resurrection of an old thread. 26 mm is a diameter of the centre of a handlebar. Nothing to do with the rest of the bar

seems no matter what, the brifter clamp is too small in diameter to slip on to the aero bars.
