2006 Trek Madone rear axle
I have a 2006 Trek Madone 5.2 and I've been having difficulty finding a part locally. I need the rear axle for that vintage of Race Lite hub which uses a 17mm ID bearing on the non-drive side and a 15mm ID Bearing on the drive side. My LBS has just told me "it's discontinued" the hub, and the wheel are fine and I suspect there's either a replacement or a way to get the axle but I'm just not having any luck. The Bike Serial Number is WL#########. What I have is some wear on the axle itself that allows play between the drive side inner race and the shaft that allows the bearing to move. This translates into 2-3mm of play at the tire contact patch. I'm willing to buy an axle, a conversion kit from either Trek or DT Swiss - apparently this is some version of a DT Swiss 350. I'm just not having any luck finding a part.. Any thoughts?

You realize Brand name Bike companies really don't make all the components , themselves.
learn who specifically made your hubs, DT Swiss?
Or consider buying new wheels ? Shimano is practically universal..

They are DT Swiss but I don't see this part in any of the DT Swiss part diagrams that I've seen. Maybe they have an equivalent axle/spacer setup?

Turns out... This is apparently NOT a DT Swiss hub, according to DT Swiss. It may be a Formula and there are two different designs. The 2005 Design - which my 2006 bike is wearing has a 6802 bearing on the Drive Side and a 6803 Bearing on the Non-Drive Side. the 2006 and 2007 design has a 6901 bearing on the drive side and a 6803 on the non-drive side. I may be able to modify this setup to go with a 6901 bearing if the minor diameter of the shaft which the freehub rides on is 12mm like the ID of the 6901 bearing. Just chuck it up in a lathe and shave the worn shoulder down to allow the 12mm bearing to have a light press fit. If that won't work. I'm going to knurl it and use some sleeve retainer and finish the summer out and just get a rear wheel package during the winter and be all set in the spring.
