It looks like there're two in that pic, and if they're male and female then expect a lot more road salmon next fall.
Man, I've hit birds, dogs, squirrels, and ungulates while driving, but never a fish.

Apparently this isn't a first!
Interestingly, though, these were chum salmon, too. Chinook, coho, and sockeye apparently prefer deeper waters.

Yup , in the Pacific-Northwest That is what we call 'a rain-storm' ..
Nope, just the one where someone had their camera handy.
Rosberg-Altoona road in Wahkiakum county, does that regularly ,
just has to rain heavy, a couple days, and the tide is high.

Around here the salmon usually swim *against* traffic, rather than *across* traffic.

Resident smartass.
Too bad fishing regs apply in this situation, just as hunting regs apply if you nail a deer with your vehicle.

No. I've seen it several times on the news in the past 17 years living in the NW. In the Fall the rivers flood and it probably happens every year, with the proliferation of cameras we'll see it all the time now.

Yup, saw that clip on the news just as I was leaving the house this morning. Barely spitting rain when I left for work, by the time I had ridden 20 minutes the heavens had opened up. I mean Texas style rain - big raindrops in torrents, huge torrents. All I could do was laugh, it was raining so hard I almost had to stop and wait. Wind was about 20, so I got a good shot of the typhoon (it was warm, about 50). I might have been let off the hook had I driven to work this morning...but then I'd have to be on the trainer tonite!

They weren't salmon, but last winter I found myself pedaling through dozens of tiny fish swimming in the water flooding the bike path.
