Daily commuter

Looking to buy my first road bike for commuting to work. Distance is about 30km total. I have narrowed it down to these two bikes and am wondering if these are a good option and if so what one is the better bike. I am 5'10

Opus Vivace $600
-Shimano Ultegra parts
-Aluminum frame

Or

Devinci Chicane $500
Recently upgraded wheels (Mavic CXP) and tires (Gatorskin 700x23). New rear cassette (12-13-15-18-21-24-28-32) combined with the 52-42-30 chainrings up front

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I never think of road bikes as commuter bikes. All I've ridden for the last 40 or more years are road bikes. While I might concieve of using one to get to work, I'd probably go with a cruiser type bike with an IGH or something set up like the old roadsters were.

What ever you choose, make sure it fits you and that it has the appropriate gearing for what you are going to ride. The Devinci Chicane certainly has the low gears to get you up most any hill with a paved road on it you will encounter.

Chicane seems overpriced if this is aluminum frame and 15 plus years old. The OPUS, If everything works and it's not got dated groupset on it and it's a full carbon frame......I'd have to think about it. Is the gearing appropriate for what you'll ride?

And if commuting means you'll want racks and fenders for rain, then as I said before, maybe a road bike is not right for commuting. Though some can handle fenders and racks.
