That doesn't look like it'll be of any help.
The purpose of the lanyard is to secure the Garmin onto the bike in case it somehow gets ejected from the quarter turn mount; the force that makes the Garmin eject from a quarter turn mount will likely be strong enough to also undo your button snap and send the device flying. Might be better to lose those button snaps, get a longer string and tie it into a loop.

I had a similar DIY lanyard for my Edge 810.
The mount failed.
The 810, part of the mount and a headlight were hanging by the lanyard while the bike was moving over bumpy surfaces.
Snap stayed fastened till I undid it.
Field tested & proven. HA!
