You are ignoring all the single women who cycle and are interested in dating. Jesus, just let them date.

Yes. You hear that from women all the time. Why, oh why, aren't there more men around me while I'm running, or at the grocery store, or walking down the street, or at the gym. It's a real problem you're addressing, for certain. Good on you.

Granted, I cycle more this year than ever before, but since covid, I have seen more female cyclists than ever. Maybe it is becoming more popular.

Tinder was a better way for singles to meet people for cycling than strava. Fortunately, my girlfriend and I do enough of various kinds of riding that I no longer swipe.

Maybe as an option. Otherwise, super creepy.

I've been out of that world for a reeeeally long time, so have no clue what it's like now. BITD, there were dating sites that would match people based on actual interests - I don't know about anyone else, but someone who rides bikes but otherwise has nothing in common with me would be a no-go.

will there be an option for tandem dating if you're into that sort of thing?

Next thing you know, your Strava dashboard has an ad - "Beautiful Russian Women Cyclists seek friendship, marriage."

Plus, what if it turns out she's faster than you? Or has a better bike?

Have there been changes, or am I just not seeing the subscription options?

One can leave public comments, but one doesn't get private contact info. Info on people tends to be quite limited.

A few friends did meet their partners -- or hope to meet others -- via cycling groups. That's pretty common. Some of 'em find stable relationships that way. One friend met his wife via a casual cycling club and they're still together decades later. A couple others seem to have good dating/living arrangements. And others have broken up and splintered some clubs by fighting over custody of friends they had in common.

Most folks who join cycling clubs with the specific goal of hooking up usually leave disappointed.

Facebook is great for finding local cycling groups. There are a zillion in my area, and many of 'em are still riding throughout the pandemic with little or no curtailment of interaction.

Not me, I'm hiding out and riding solo, but that's because I'm in the high risk demographic and have absolutely zero interest in dating. The surest way to get me to unfriend, block or unfollow someone is for a woman acquaintance to ask me if I'm interested in dating. Married twice, two-time loser, enjoying my freedom now. I answer to no one other than my three female cats who obviously are the real bosses in my home.

But Strava? Nah, not seeing it. Yeah, it's social media, but narrowly focused. They dabbled with offering posts other than activity logs but it didn't really catch on, other than to attract porn spammers.

The closest you can get to flirting on Strava is to simply give kudos and carefully worded generic encouragement, without getting creepy or personal about it. That might develop into something, but I wouldn't push it. Cyclists are very cliquish and if anything goes wrong you'll never hear the end of it online.

My estimates of joggers and cyclists are a general observation made over the seasons, though I do “guesstimate” the gender during the cold weather.

Think about it... cycling is about 99.9999999% pasty white guys and 0.0000000001% everyone else. (Yes, I'm a pasty white guy ) Heck, I don't even know if there are any women on this forum or any bike forum I post on. My cousin who is female and an avid cyclist does what she can to avoid the barrage of online weird-o's who contact her simply because she's a "chick on a bike". Heck, even on Zwift she set up her profile to be as anonymous as possible and from a country she doesn't live in so as to not be pestered by all the goons looking to use that platform to connect with women.

Long-story-short, if you're a remotely attractive women who bikes, I don't think you need an app to find a date... you need an app to protect yourself from too many date requests.

(If you're female and disagree, please speak-up!)

I can't like this post hard enough.

Also, if there are any women here, I'm guessing its few. And not just because of actual discussion of the supposed merits of strava as a creeper app, which is simply baffling, but because of the locker room talk like this:

I love bikes. And biking. So much.

But man, the stereotype of biking being nothing but a boys club of pasty whites isn't exactly being challenged by stuff like this. I'd like to see everyone on a bike. Every-freaking-one. I don't think I'm out of line saying that the majority of people here do as well. But we can't bring them in if this is what they see, you know? I'm not saying we need to join hands and sing and hug, but maybe a think a little about how all this would look to your daughter, girlfriend, mom.

Biking rocks. Let's let everyone in to the club.

I am not pasty and I am happy about that. And it's wonderful to be part of a diverse cycling community. Get it now? Or are you trying to start an argument from behind a keyboard. If so, take your accusations elsewhere.

Wonder if this is point where I reveal that both sets of my parents (biological and adoptive) were interracial couples, that I was raised mostly in incredibly diverse environments (e.g., my neighborhood and most of my schools) and, therefore, harbor no feelings of hatred to anyone based on race, national origin, etc.

I spend a lot of time in the sun, so I’m glad I’m not pasty. I’m also glad I’m not poor. That doesn’t make me a “classist.”
